I just started to begin my adventure in Ultima 7 and when I fired up the game the intro plays where the butterfly flaps in and lands on the logo and then when the screen chops in and out with the TV "Fuzz" the red guy pops up and starts talking... Up to this point everything SEEMS okay but when he starts talking the sound goes out of sync... basically his speech isn't synchronized with the audio and it's pretty obvious.. I tried increasing the cycles and that didn't help so I really don't know what to do.. If it was just the introduction with this issue I really wouldn't mind all that much but if it's doing that there then I would imagine it's going to happen throughout the game and that's an issue for me..

So, does anyone know why this is happening and possibly how to fix it?

So you didn't actually get into the game and check to see if the audio syncing was off? You should do that first and, if the sync is still off, let us know.

The option I would suggest to fix any issues you're having is to use Exult. A lot of people want to play using only DOSBox for "purity" reasons though, so it's up to you.
When you say that his speech isn't synchronized with the audio, do you mean that the moving-mouth animation isn't synchronized but the sequence otherwise completes normally (not cutting off partway through the speech, etc)?

If reducing the clock cycles doesn't help (try setting DOSbox to ~5,000 in the .cfg file and adjust upward once in the game) you may still be okay because the few audio-speech sequences in the game don't use animations; only the intro and outro do. On the other hand, if you find that non-speech sound effects are desyncing in the game as well then you'll probably need to change some of the other audio settings.
I figured it out by tweaking the config file.. it seems having double buffer and a default 14000 clock cycle was the cause. I removed double buffering and reduced the clock cycle to 5000 and now it's in sync.
