Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but I'm playing Ultima 7 on Windows 8, and it's almost unplayable...
terrible framerate, flashing black bar at the bottom....
I saw a couple posts about running it with 'Exult', but I'm not sure what that is.... I'm new to GOG, so I'm not sure how to get to a games performance settings (I used to be an avid Steam user).
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Exult is a project to recreate Ultima 7 for modern operating systems, using the game's original plot, data, and graphics files. It has nothing to do with the original version GOG offers.

Ultima runs in an emulated DOS environment (DOSBox) which you can manipulate. You can rise and lower the calculation cycles of this virtual computer, thus adjusting game speed.
Therefore DOSBox offers hotkeys:
Ctrl+F11 to decrease CPU Cycle
Ctrl+F12 to increase CPU Cycle
You have to press them several times to see an effect, because the steps are rather small.

As Windows 8 is rather new, you could try running the game in Compatibility Mode (Win XP).
- Right-click the program's icon and choose Properties.
- In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For check box and select the program's desired Windows version from the drop-down list.
- Click OK and then try running your program again to see whether it works better.

Thank you!! I'm new to Dos box, so I didn't know this.
It works a lot better now.
You're very welcome! Ultima 7 is one of the classics I love. Have fun playing!
