My understanding is that I need the Serpent Amulet. Is this an item that needs to be found?

My avatar is currently wearing the "Amulet of Balance", which I think I got in conjunction with becoming a Knight in Monitor.

I tried starting a new game and the Avatar doesn't seem to have a Serpent Amulet then either.

Ah, I misremembered. It is the Amulet of Balance that you need; there is no "Serpent Amulet". Other special pieces of jewelry and equipment later in the game are "Serpent" this or that, but not this one.

I think you need to use the Amulet while wearing it and standing on a Serpent Gate.
