Hi Fellow Gogians. Is there a way to play the second trilogy in windowed mode? I ask as all though I have dual monitors, I still find myself alt tabing in order to read the manual/Cluebook/ maps etc.

Thanks for your time.

Ultima games use dosbox. You can ALT+Enter to switch between windowed and fullscreen modes.

Also, if you are playing in window and want to have it bigger, follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to the directory you installed the game (for example c:\Program Files\Gog.com\Ultima IV)
2. Find file called dosboxULTIMAxx.conf (note the xx - it depends of the game you are modifying)
3. Open that file on notepad or any other text editor
4. find line scaler=normal2x
5. change that line to scaler=advmame3x
6. save and close

This changes the window to be scaled 3x of original size (default setting is 2x).
You can play around with different scalers available (read the comments on the .conf file). My favorite scalers are the advmame2x and advmame3x ones, and he hq2x/hq3x.

Also, in same config file there is line fullscreen=true
Change it to false to start up in windowed mode

Hey brother, because this is a question topic, you should mark GoingDown's post as the right answer, so he'll get the dubious advantage of free rep.

Oh shoot, I never knew one could do that. Apologies to GoingDown for not doing it until today.
When playing Ultima 5 and Holling up and Camping I find I can only type in 5 Hours ,No
other value seems to work.

Are you typing on the NumPad or on the keyboard top row?
There is another way to increase the window size using DOSBox, and that is to manually set the window resolution.

Follow the instructions by GoingDown, and locate the dosboxULTIMAxx.conf file. Open it in a text editor as per the instructions. Then, look for a line that says "windowresolution=original". Change this line to pick a specific resolution for the window, for example "windowresolution=1024x768". This will resize the window to whatever you specify. Personally, I like a window running at 1280x1024 on my 1920x1080 screen, so it fills a good portion of the screen but still allows me to easily switch to other tasks to take notes and such.

EDIT: I've not used the scaler method that GoingDown describes, so I'm not sure if it differs in how it works. But manually setting the window resolution worked great for the Might and Magic games.

Yes, this works beautifully, but not with all scalers (eg hq2x, hq3x, advinterp...). So safest choice is to use hardware or normal scalers with resolution changing method.

I've got the same problem. Neither pad nor row works, and yes, NumLock is on. It may be something to do with Windows 7 (Which for some strange reason also insists I run the game as an admin...)

You need to make sure Num Lock is off before you launch the game. Same thing happened to me; that was the solution I found.
NM, found out I just had to run Notepad in administrator mode. Thanks for the help that this page offered.
