Hi,

I am totally new to the series and hence have no lore and game mechanics knowledge so far. But after getting the game to work with the free Exult engine, I stumbled over the following issue: in the Windows version (I have tested under the Wine emulator) I can freely stealing my way through Trinsic without any in-game consequences. It was after I played the game with Exult that I noticed it, since here I always get cought and confronted by the town people. I assume this may be a bug in the game. Also the tremor at the beginning, which should indicate the FoV add-on to be installed, is missing in the Windows version.

Anyway the games here are great! GOG is awesome!

Stealing and getting caught for it in the original game works just as fine normally. What could be happening here:
- if noone actually SEES you stealing thy won't notice and neither care
- If you drag things you steal directly on your character (or another companion IIRC) rather than into your backpack (you had opened earier), noone will notice the stealing either.
Alas, any of this sheds some light on what happens to you here?

As for the tremor: this is awkwardly different when you run the game in vanilla version (unless you use the fix or the nitpicker patch): it is like being played "very fast forward" and will be over in 0.5 seconds....it IS there though.

As for your first hint, I tested it again, though I was pretty sure, but even under the watching eyes of the townfolks I get away with stealing for ca. 80% of the times I try. So maybe it's then due to the second factor.

With the Exult engine I only succeed, when I am not in the line of sight to anyone, or I drop stuff on some of my companions, though the latter doesn't work every time.

As for the tremor, I checked again and noticed it. As you said it was shorter than with Exult, but Iolo clearly mentions it, so it's there. ;-)
