Is there a way to leave people behind?

Like Baulders Gate, and only take one player (the avatar) on a thievery expedition? Cause every time I get an itch to look through peoples stuff... he leave me... the avatar... he who embodies all that is right in Britania in a huff of explicatives and disappointment.

The only way to 'leave people behind' is to have them leave the party completely by talking to them and asking them to leave. Otherwise they'll follow you wherever you go.

thanks for your reply... :-)

but oh :-( ... bugger!

It sort of doesn't help when you are trying to loot loot... maybe just in the beginning of the game i can let Iolo leave, and I hope I can find him again. Is there a list of potential party members with pros & cons? ie. Which should I keep, ditch? where can I find them originally... and if i ask them to leave... do they stay where I left them or do they return to where i originally recruited them from? Lastly,, if i let them go... do some leave forever? because i had sticky fingers... Iolo abandoned me... Im sure he can still hear my voice echoing through his mind saying ''' judas judas juuuddddaaassss'

They should go back to where you originally found them (though schedules may kick in and cause them to wander a bit).

There are only two with unique abilities: Jaana can use a healer ability once per day, which is usually best saved for Resurrection emergencies, and Sentri will train you for free while in the group - and is the best trainer you can get for Dex/Combat.
Actually, most (if not all) will give you the option, when asking them to leave, whether you want them to A) stay put right where they are or B) go back to where you found them in the first place (or some other logical place for them to be, Iolo goes back to his home in Yew, for instance).

A full listing of potential party members can be found here: http://wiki.ultimacodex.com/wiki/Party_Members_in_Ultima_VII

You're the avatar. In Brittania. Stealing can have bad consequences on your reputation. One of which is party members abandoning you if it gets bad enough. Sounds like you took too many liberties with other peoples items without knowing how to triggering the reputation hits, and believe me, that can even happen in dungeons.
