When I look up "Ultima VIII" on Gog Galaxy, I find the bottom image, where it says:

"Ultima VIII: Pagan - 1994, Origin Systems Owned game"

When I look at the Gog Galaxy page of the game, the top image shows, saying "Link executable". I don't recall buying and downloading this game, but I could have forgotten. If all this means I did get the game, what is the downloaded file called? Or is there a different way of figuring this out?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Are you unable to download the game?
What does it matter what the name of the downloaded file is?
No, I can't download it with that link. Could you please fix it for me? And I couldn't remember if I downloaded an .exe file.

If you purchased the game, it should be in your "Owned games" folder in either GOG Galaxy or the "Games" folder under your profile at gog.com.

I don't understand what "Link executable" or "Ultima VIII: Pagan - 1994, Origin Systems Owned game" means.

It's in the two screen images I posted together in my starter post of this thread as an attachment. When I go to Ultima VIII on Gog Galaxy, I click where there should be a "Play" button, but is instead "Link executable". I click on it, I go to a file-search mode, lookin in "C: > Program Files (x86) > GOG Galaxy > Games" to find some "Executable" file (*.exe, *.bat, *.com; *.cmd, or *.ps1). This is shown in the first image attached in this post, this time showing this. And it's not in "Games" under my profile. And on Gog Galaxy, under "Owned Games", there's also "Owned games" and "Windows". Under "Owned games" Ultima VIII is there, but when I switch to "Windows", it's the same game list, but Ultima VIII is removed. It's not in "Installed" on Gog Galaxy either, nor are most of the other games, which is correct, in that part. Can't remember how to get down to the screen again I posted at the bottom of the posted image in my starter post.

Also, on my Gog Galaxy's "Recent" section, as a second attachment here, check "Recently Added", and "Ultima VIII: Pagan". Under 'Platform" is "Other" (when you put the mouse-hand over it) and a circle, instead of "GOG.com" (also when you put the mouse-hand over it) and a gog.com logo with all the other games listed.

Finally, on Gog Galaxy's "Manage installation > Configure..., I think I may have found that I downloaded it wrong,. It's the third attached image to this. I should have checked "Cloud saves" & "Sync local saves to GOG Galaxy Cloud" and "Overlay" & "Access GOG Galaxy features in-game". Instead I just did "Launch parameters" & "Custom executables / arguments", which I wasn't supposed to, and is why the game is as it is here? When I click on "add another executable / arguments" in purple, I get the same file-search as :"Link executable" at the top again.

Please help me solve all this so I can play the original Ultima VIII. Thanks. Maybe if I did buy this, a refund, then a proper payment and download with the game working fine?

Stop using Galaxy, it's a bad client.

Here, do this: Go to https://www.gog.com/account and click on Ultima 8. Now there's a little thing that says, "Download Offline Backup Installers". Click it so the arrow next to it is pointing downward.

Download and install it that way. The shortcut should lead to proper launching, but failing that, you can open Dosbox and point it manually over.

Ultima VIII doesn't show up on www.gog.com/account. How do I do the Dosbox thing?

[Okay, deep breath.]

If it doesn't show up on your account, let's try a different approach.

Go find it in the store. When you go to the pricetag, does it say owned? And when you go to the game page, does it say, "Buy as Gift"?

Because if not, then you don't own the game unless you can provide proof otherwise, support isn't for pirates.

Oh, how interesting. I've never seen that before.

Doing some searching, it seems like the "Link executable" button shows up when there was an error in installation, and the file that is normally linked to "Play" is no longer where GOG Galaxy thinks it is.

If I were you, I would just completely uninstall and reinstall using GOG Galaxy, or I would manually download it.

If you want to try to find the broken Ultima 8 install on your computer, you might want to search for the words "Ultima 8" in a directory. My execution file is " "D:\Games\GOG Games\Ultima 8\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxULTIMA8.conf" -conf "..\dosboxULTIMA8_single.conf" -noconsole -c "exit" ", which executes DOSBOX, then executes the commands in my dosboxULTIMA8.conf file, which will execute the D:\Games\GOG Games\Ultima 8\ENGLISH\u8.exe file. But, since you're getting the "Link executable" error, that directory may have been deleted on your computer.

To completely uninstall and reinstall using GOG Galaxy, you should be able to click on the icon with the two sliders just to the right of the "Link Executable" button, navigate to "Manage Installation" and then "Uninstall" (I've attached a screenshot here). Then you might be able to reinstall using that same navigation pane...unless it's completely greyed out?

To install manually, go to https://www.gog.com/account and download it from there. Note that you will need to sign in to your GOG account in order to see information there. If you can't find it there, then GOG doesn't have a record of your purchase for some reason...so you may need to repurchase the game (or provide a proof of purchase to authorities at GOG, who may then be able to link your GOG account.

I'm very sorry, PC game downloading I haven't mastered yet. Please bear with me.

In Store, and Browse all games, all I can find, Ultima-wise, are: Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams, Ultima 1+2+3, Ultima 4+5+6, Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar, Ultima 7 The Complete Edition, Ultima 8 Gold Edition, Ultima 9: Ascension, and Ultima Underworld 1+2.

https://www.gog.com/games?sort=title&page=105

https://www.gog.com/games?sort=title&page=106

In Store, Browse all games, and All games for Windows, it's the same:

https://www.gog.com/games?system=windows_10%2Cwindows_7%2Cwindows_8%2Cwindows_vista%2Cwindows_xp&sort=title&page=105

https://www.gog.com/games?system=windows_10%2Cwindows_7%2Cwindows_8%2Cwindows_vista%2Cwindows_xp&sort=title&page=106

Because if not, then you don't own the game unless you can provide proof otherwise, support isn't for pirates.
I honestly don't know why this happened. Below are 4 more image attachments of my Gog Galaxy, the first two showing the "Owned games", with "Pagan: Ultima VIII" shown there, then two more in the "Windows" link next to it, which has all the same games except "Pagan: Ultima VIII".

And on Gog Galaxy, if I install something, I can play it on both Gog Galaxy and the shortcut on my hard drive under "Program Files (x86) > GOG Galaxy > Games > (game name)", with the name "Launch (game name)", so I can still play these after uninstalling Gog Galaxy?

bliznik, I'll get to your post either tonight or tomorrow, I promise.

So...this is all what you see when you use GOG Galaxy, but what about when you go to https://www.gog.com/account and log into your account? You should be able to see Ultima VIII Gold Edition in your https://www.gog.com/account page as well, as shown in Screenshot_1.

If you click on that icon in the website, you should be able to see a "Download and Install Now" link there, as shown in Screenshot_2

I wanted to get the first Ultima VIII, which is what I got partially, I guess, somehow. I assumed Ultima VIII Gold Edition was some kind of update, like Ultima 7's FoV and SS, so I never tried it. What are the differences, if any? I went to Store, looked stuff up alphabetically, and found Ultima VIII Gold Edition, as I did before. When I click on it, I get an "Add to cart" thing. See my gog account images for what my gog account page looks like, and u8goldedition for what it says when I go to getting that game, which shows I've never even purchased it. Have you guys ever sold the original "Ultima VIII: Pagan", as that's all I partially-downloaded, I guess. It is listed on my Gog Galaxy account under "Owned Games" only, as you saw before.

The Gold Edition just includes the patch and speech pack.

It doesn't appear as though you are signed in to GOG. Did you sign in? When you click on the icon to the right of SUPPORT, you should see your username.

Also, you are in the store. You are not in your GOG.com account. You need to go to https://www.gog.com/account after you log in to your account. NOT the store.

What does that mean, exactly? What exact changes are those? I'm guessing the last one lets you hear other character voices when you talk to them? All I really want is to first play Ultima 7: The Black Gate, part 2 Serpent Isle, and the original Ultima VIII: Pagan (for now). If the patch and pack of the Gold Edition don't really change the story or anything, I'd be willing to settle for it, but I kinda want to see it for how it really was, then maybe Gold Edition afterward if the changes are too much. Same with also later doing Ultima VII Forge of Virtue and Silver Seed, from you guys.

Check my "accountnameshown.jpg" attached image for that.

So in order to get other games I also need to go to my GOG.com account? And check my "gogaccount1.jpg" and "gogaccount2.jpg" attached images for pics of my GOG.com account. And/Or I just download these on my account and they'll stay on my computer to play on and I won't need to save them on Gog Galaxy to play them? LMK if you need more info.

Yes. And it's the original Ultima VIII: Pagan, which isn't in your store (anymore?). Did any of you guys remove it from the site? That's all I can think of. I must have done something wrong when I downloaded it, and/or it was removed from the site?
If I were you, I would just completely uninstall and reinstall using GOG Galaxy, or I would manually download it.
So I go to my account, save all the games there, then uninstall and reinstall GOG Galaxy? Or save the ones from GOG Galaxy onto my computer? Each one I've done that with, in their game folder under "C: > Program Files (x86) > GOG Galaxy > Games > (gog game name)" is a shortcut called "Launch (game name)", which will play the intended game right, but it says it's starts from the DOSBOX subfolder, but when I activate the DOSBox.exe in that folder, it shows a couple DOS boxes, and won't load.
Must be. I searched my whole hard drive and didn't find anything in an "Ultima 8" search.
To completely uninstall and reinstall using GOG Galaxy, you should be able to click on the icon with the two sliders just to the right of the "Link Executable" button, navigate to "Manage Installation" and then "Uninstall" (I've attached a screenshot here). I'll try this when I know how to keep all my games on my gog account and/or GOG Galaxy safely on my computer.
So this will safely save my gog account purchased games to run on my computer alone, right, leaving me free to uninstall and reinstall GOG Galaxy? I checked between my account games list and GOG Galaxy one, and the only two different ones are Galaxy's "Ultima VII: The Complete Edition" and "Pagan: Ultima VIII". Is it possible they'll both come up again as playable if I do that?
