Is there an in-game map? Thanks.

Can't edit title.... That would be "Noob". Have no idea what a "Nood" is..............

Indeed there is - its one of the first objects you pick up once the game starts - have a look in the first bag you find....
And you can even make notes on it!
Cool. Thanks. I was afraid that it was one of those old draw your own map type rpgs.

Yeah, that's something that makes me reluctant to try out any of the really old classics that don't have automapping.

Though, be aware that Ultima Underworld does not have a quest log! You'll have to jot down notes after many a conversation. Luckily, there's plenty of room on the right side of the map scroll. Personally, I still use plain old pen & paper for that. Spares me a lot of clicking.
This game has one of my favorite mapping systems. The automapping just felt perfect and the ability to write notes directly on the map was fantastic. It gave the perfect amount of detail.

As for no quest log ... I actually liked that. Sure quest logs are handy but just not as much fun as making my own notes. I think my favorite game for note taking was Morrowind, without expansion packs you had no quest log so you would end up with pages of notes, even after the expansion I refused to use the log.
Also, you don't have to keep the map in your bag. The two slots next to the paperdoll's head can be used for that. Torch, lamp, etc on left side, map on right side :)
