I am looking for the patch that apperantly fixes the bug in Hythloth and searching for it turned up only dead ends and broken links. I'd appreciate the help. :)

I see the website, but when I click the file i get a quick "File does not exist" message. Bouncing through the web archive link hasn't helped any. Tried clicking in different orders but no such luck. Anyone got some advice?

If anyone else stumbles on this in another 4 years, I found that using the y-up spell from before the broken room puts you on the 5th floor past the broken room. That's a decent workaround, although I'd still like the patch if it's available.

With all the discussion here about a fix, could somebody explain the problem that the fix is supposed to address?

Someone mentioned a broken room. How is that room broken?

I note that I generally don't find myself really exploring the dungeon; the only time I am somewhere other than level 8 or the ladder leading to it is when I enter from outside to touch the orb, where I don't need to go beyond the first floor or enter any rooms; hence, I never actually reach the room in question (assuming you aren't talking about a room on level 8, but I haven't found any broken rooms there). (Even in the NES versio, which doesn't have the Y and Z spells, I still never go anywhere other than B1 or B8; I don't even like going down the ladders to B8 because that's slow because of all the prompts.)

IIRC, when you are working your way back up through Hythloth without using any of the Up or Down spells, you'll hit a dead end because either a trigger doesn't work or the room is garbage because of some room data being off by a byte or two. There are three rooms next to each other, and I believe it's the center room that is garbage. I think you can successfully navigate from left to right, but it's from right to left that you need to do and that's what's broken.

You start in the eastern room and can't open a passage to the middle room. Then you use the Y spell.
