Ultima 8 is my freeeakin' favorite, I love it so much, and YES I understand that as an Ultima game it's just all kinds of wrong and it has besmirched the good name of this illustrious series etc etc, don't care, it's the greatest.

Unpopular opinion number two: I HATE the music option they chose for this reboot of the game. It sounds like either Roland MT-32 or maybe Roland Sound Canvas/General MIDI, which I know many would consider to be the "best" or "better" possible option, but it's not what I grew up with, and for me it totally lacks all the charm of the SoundBlaster version of the soundtrack. Adlib would be fine too, but I do like having the PCM sampled speech stuff in there.

Does anyone know a way to run GOG's port of Ultima 8 with music from the earlier sound cards?

I don't have a gog.com copy of U8 but since it's a DOS game, there's probably program in the folder where you installed the game named 'install.exe' or setup.exe' or something similar. Run that program and pick Soundblaster instead. You should be able to select SB16 (or Pro) (port=220, irq=7, dma=1, hdma=5)

Yes, I do have the GOG version and it works like the above poster mentioned. Open the game directory and then open the dosbox directory in a separate window. There should be a file called install.exe or setup.exe in the game directory, drag that onto the dosbox.exe and your golden. Just make sure your IRQs and stuff match your dosbox config.
