I know the Dos version is without a save feature but can you save in the Windows 98 version is there a command I am missing or did they not include that in that remake either?
This question / problem has been solved by GeistSRimage
From the readme:

Q = save game
ctrl+Q / ctrl+E = quit
ctrl+R = restore saved game

actually, it is DOS game but was released as an "Extra" in 1997 with the Ultima Collection and works only in true MSDOS 5.0, WIndows 95/98 with a dos config however, GOG has fixed DOSBox and configured it to work in modern OS.(XP 7, and I assume 8.1) I only said that as I had played this game in 1998 on Windows 98 actually it is DOS just like the other one, but revamped with save/some color schemes and music, nothing more.
sorry about the mix up.

The version released in the Utltima Collection was remade to work in Windows, as said in the readme. No DOSBox required.

Surely that's just because Windows 9x was still DOS compatible. DOSBox didn't start to become necessary until XP IIRC.

Ah, thanks for the info. I was pretty curious when I thought you meant an actual windows version!

No it works in XP as well. It's a 32 bit program.
