The number of patches lately is insane. I'd be happy if we got updates that were thoroughly checked and not needed at this frequency!
As far as I can see in the mainmenu, the game has version 2025.1 Patch 5 from the 24.01.2025. It's the same version as the version on Steam.
I don't really care what version we have, what I want is this: When there are new game versions, the update (patch) must be checked for bugs before release, so there is no need to follow up with 4 or 5 hotfixes within a week.
The Devs are gonna do as they please, I don't see anyone do anything about that

Sorry. Somehow i got your post totally wrong...
The patches have largely been about tweaking things, rather then full-on bugs. One of the big things that the devs have been fiddling with has been how ships sink (generally, much slower then they did in 2024 and earlier versions). I would absolutely agree that the way the devs are handling it isn't the best - actually use the unstable branch they maintain as intended. That is, do the tweaking in the unstable branch, with all the minor patches and such, and only once they're satisfied with the result, does it get pushed to the main branch.

TL;DR, you won't break your game by putting off an update.
Tweaking things? Normally ini, cfg or json files are used for this.

Well, since I started this thread, there have been three more patches so far. At least the frequency has been reduced, but I don't think it's really getting better.

The best thing for you is to download the latest version every six months.
You'll be happy, and the others can continue to enjoy the rigorous tracking of the game on GoG.
This is so rare on GoG that I didn't think I'd find anyone complaining about it.
