Greetings! =)

Maybe this is a useful solution for Windows 10 and 11 owners, it also works on Windows 7 (I tested it here). ^^

By default, the GOG version is configured to run in Direct3D, and there is no option in "Setup.exe" to change this. However, here is a quick and easy solution for using the DirectDraw renderer with the cnc-ddraw wrapper.

So let's go...

- Open the game's root directory and look for the "tzar.ini" file, open it and look for the line "DIRECTXDEVICE=1", change the value 1 to 0, leaving it like this...

"[VIDEO]
BUFFER_IN_VIDEO_MEMORY=0
DIRECTXDEVICE=0
DIRECTDRAW_DEVICESNUMBER=2
SETUPFXDEVICE=0"

- Save the file;
Note: 0=DirectDraw | 1=Direct3D

- Open "Setup.exe" and make any changes to video, audio and etc... Whatever is necessary for your convenience;
- Download the latest version of cnc-ddraw here: https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw
- And unzip the contents of the file into the game's root directory, that is, where the executable is located;
- Open "cnc-ddraw config.exe", and in "Presentation" change to "Fullscreen Upscaled", and activate "VSync" below;
- Before you start playing, be sure to disable any compatibility options in the game shortcut (cnc-ddraw doesn't like these things);
- Now run to kick lots of dragon butts! XD

Note: A BIG SPECIAL THANKS to LuKeStorm for teaching me this. If it weren't for his help I wouldn't have discovered how to change renderers on my own.

Cheers! ;)

You can also use my Ready2Play launcher (used cnc-ddraw wrapper) that does everything needed without fiddling around

Hey man, it's good to see you here. Your packages are good. I posted your GTA1 package on the main forum and people practically freaked out with all that "copyright" talk. It was funny but at the same time tragic, it seems like people are losing the spirit of preservation.
That's also the reason why I don't post my GTA1 R2P with the complete game files everywhere, I know people unfortunately.

Hi there, sorry to bother you, I've followed your instructions to the letter, but it doesn't work. Before, it'd open with an ill-centered window and crash as soon as I pressed any button in-game, now it's not running at all. I'm doing it from the setup.exe in the steamlibrary, but it doesn't even open as a window.

Hello... Unfortunately I don't have the Steam version. This has all been tested on the GOG version. I'm sorry I can't help you. =/

Luke, sorry for the late response... I was in solitary confinement for 30 days after that thread. GOG has forgotten what preservation is, I feel like they are becoming a Nintendo. XD
