Two Worlds is one of the most atrocious games I have ever had the displeasure of playing. Awful graphics, awful gameplay, awful dialog, and so on. I'm normally the kind of person who is willing to forgive serious issues in a game as long as it is playable and fun, but Two Worlds hardly justifies itself in either category. And even with all that said, GOG wants to charge you $10 for this atrocity of a game? Do yourself a favor and spend your money on something that's actually worth your time.
Avoid this game at all costs.
Did you play this originally on PC or console? Huge difference between the two.

I have to say buddy, that your opinion is just that, your opinion.
Why did you buy the game if you feel that way about it ?
I purchased this game upon its original release in Germany
( imported to me here in the UK) , and I was even on the beta testing team for a few months as the patches came out. I lost count of the times I restarted this game for the sake of a new patch. All the way through I found it fun, quite tough ( until you started merging weapons) and also found the script to be very deliberately written and acted to sound cheesy. Gave me lots of laughs and was still enjoyable when I bought it upon its XBOX release ( for which I managed 970 gamer score ).
This game is in a similar vein to the Gothic series & Risen ( Oblivion , whilst fun, is an over simplified RPG). If you Like Gothic and Risen, you'll like this.

Oh this is in no way like Gothic or Risen (I hate Gothic and Risen and love Two Worlds!) It feels more like Morrowind actually

Funny, I just reviewed Two Worlds on this site and also compared it Gothic 3 and Risen - two of my favourite RPG's!
It's funny, but the way the media review them and the way gamers talk about them, you would think we get one or two a month released! The fact is, we're lucky if we get a real RPG like this once a year - maybe twice! We get the odd year of a Fallout 3 AND a Witcher AND a Two Worlds. But we also get years inbetween when the closest we get to an RPG is a Jade Empire or STALKER!
RPG's are huge beasts to crate when compared to, say, corridor shooters. They need to be playtested 20 times more than those shooters and are 10 times more sophisticated in their programming. Given they give 10 times the gameplay of a shooter and sell for the same price, it's amazing that any developer/publisher ever releases them! It must be horrendous to playtest them with their million permutations, and yet this doesn't stop the media marking them down for having just a couple of bugs on release!
Of all the genres that have existed I have never understood why open world, non linear RPG's are not treated as the God's they are in video gaming! I would say an average RPG is still streets ahead of a great corridor shooter, and a great RPG cannot be matched by anything. To me Half Life cannot touch Planescape Torment or Daggerfall. Crysis cannot even touch a Two Worlds. They literally are worlds apart.
We are in the last days of old fashioned RPG's like Two Worlds or the Witcher or even Oblivion. Mass Effect and Bioshock are the future of 'RPG's. So thank god for any developer who decides to make and sell an RPG. they are special people that know they are taking on something 1,000 times harder than a Far Cry, etc - I take my hat off to them and give them a ton of respect.
Your comments are so true, fortunately, it seems that our Teutonic and other Euro developer friends have found a market for these vast and excellent RPGs, and they seem to write them in English, thus making them playable by more people around the world.
I always buy games of this type on their release as I consider it necessary for the publishers and devs to have the funding to carry on making these types of games.
Coming this year are 3 such titles. If I'm not mistaken we have coming this year ( or already out ) the following:-
Venetica - ( out and very good, but had to import, and has english text and speech)
Gothic 4 - ( new developer & out in Autumn)
Two Worlds 2 - ( out in Autumn ).
All of the above have more depth than most games, so go get 'em guys :)
I forgot about Venetica. I was just mentioning to my fiancee earlier that this is an exciting year for RPG's. So many on the horizon, looks like my wallet will have a lean year.
I am glad Europe has picked up the slack. Though many games coming from there are undeveloped, underfunded and often with horrid English. They do however have heart, they are made for the love of the genre and it shines through. People seem to be realizing this and sales seem to pretty good (though no numbers shown, so I have to judge it on reactions and top sales lists), which is an encouraging sign.
While I wish them all the success in the world, I hope that doesn't come at the price of greed. I am sure we all want to see them put the last little bits of polish that so many leave out. Two worlds just need more time and it would have been fantastic, as of now it is merely enjoyable but shows moments of greatness (I just wish it had proper thieving, I spent so much time in Morrowind stealing. I don't think Balmora had anything left).

Did you play it before or after it was patched? Do you even like RPG's at all? I find it to be wonderful, and anyone who is considering purchasing it can easily just play the demo (knowing it's buggier than this version) instead of avoiding it at all costs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Two Worlds 2 comes out in 2011
Also, underground but on the horizon is White Sands - the follow up to Boiling Point and The Precursors a space RPG that has ground an space combat and you can get into your ship and fly into space in real time!
Didn't know about Venetica, so thanks for that. a +rep for getting the info out! :)
Addendum:
After looking around the web, I have to take the rep back. Venetica is NOT an RPG, it's more of an action adventure, along the lines of Tomb Raider - it has some very very LIGHT roleplaying, but it is 90% action-adventure! This is what I mean by many games nowadays being called RPG's today when they are not! If you had told me it was coming out on console too, I would not have been so surprised!
On top of everything it has metacritic review scores of the low 60's, so although I couldn't find any English reviews, the European mags/sites don't seem to like it.
So scratch Venetica - it's not a PC style RPG, it's a cutesy console 'lite' RPG that I would call an action-adventure!

I have not played the updated version but my 2 dislikes of the game were the level based item stacking and the non-existent ending.
I found Venetica reminded me of Fable for some reason, I loved Fable, and quite like Venetica, no sign of a UK release though ?

You mean White Gold right? Or is this a new project?

Arkose: Yes, I do mean White Gold - White Sands were where they did the Nuclear bomb testing, so I must have been thinking about Fallout, which I am playing at the moment - sorry!

Ah, there is a commenting function for reviews I have not been aware of.

UK_John: Did you play this originally on PC or console? Huge difference between the two.

I played it on 360, so yes, I'm sure there is some difference. The graphics on 360 were atrocious, to say the least. The graphics on PC, judging by the screenshots on GOG, seem to be at least acceptable, but my review was relating to my experience with the game, which did not feature good graphics in any sense of the word.
Aside from the graphics, the gameplay was clunky and ugly, the characters were bland, the dialog was just horrible, and it was just overall an unplayable (or not worth playing, take your pick) mess.

Why did you buy the game if you feel that way about it ?

I didn't buy it on GOG. I got it off eBay for $15 because I thought I would give it a shot. I mean, I'm a fan of Too Human for God's sake :-P The least I can do is give a game a chance and see if it has any redeeming qualities at all. Sadly, for Two Worlds, this was not the case.

also found the script to be very deliberately written and acted to sound cheesy.

While I'm obviously no expert on the development of Two Worlds, I doubt the developers intentionally created a parody of standard Fantasy RPGs when the rest of the world they created is evidently not done tongue-in-cheek.

If you Like Gothic and Risen, you'll like this.

I enjoyed what I played of Gothic, but I guess it's just too old for me to really get into now. I have the same problem with the Might & Magic games, even thouigh I played the hell out of them when I was younger.

Did you play it before or after it was patched?

I played the 360 version on the latest patch as of February 2009 (as I recall).

Do you even like RPG's at all?

Indeed I do. They are probably my favorite genre.
EDIT:
Forgive the weird post formatting I have going on here. Seems GOG's quotation system is different than other forums'.

I find Two Worlds quite enjoyable so far, and another RPG that is soon to be released in the English version of Inquisitor by Cinemax games, the Chekoslovakin version is already out.
