I got an error when I tried to play Two Worlds 2. I didn't get this error with the first Two Worlds, so I'm not sure what's different. Also, I don't have the error here so bare with me, because it's from memory:

When I load the game I can hear music/sound and if I press the arrow keys that makes sounds, but the screen is black and it says something in the center about being unable to scan or the scan rate is out of range, and it mentions something like 72 or 75 mhz.

I guess this is something to do with the refresh rate or possibly resolution of the monitor not being compatible with the one the game is trying to use. But I can't get into the options to change it to one that would be compatible because I can't see it, so it's a predicament!

Should I just manually edit some settings file to make the game load in a compatible resolution? How would I do that?

You can set the resolution manually in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\Graphics

The Width and Height values are the resolution. If that still doesn't work you can try setting FullScreen to 0 to run the game in windowed mode (so you can then set and test a resolution from within the game).
Hmm, that's a weird way to do it. I thought it would just be in an INI file or something, but thanks!

(Although I'm worried it might actually be the refresh rate that's the problem, so I'll have to see if that's an option as well).

Just to be sure, do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? And what graphics card do you have?

A refresh rate problem like that seems really weird, so I wonder if it might be a driver issue.
Could the DirectX version be a problem? I had issues with the version that the default desktop shortcut uses where there were huge screen artifacts (including a lot of screen left black). Using the other DirectX version fixed the graphical glitches for me. There are launchable versions of both DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 included in the main install folder, if I remember correctly, if you want to just try the other version(s).
Actually, Arkose was right. I just had to change the resolution in the registry. Believe it or not, the default resolution was 2048x1536! Isn't that ridiculous? I don't think I've ever even seen a monitor that can display that! I know they exist, but mine sure can't do it. Why would they set such an incompatible resolution as a default, so that it can't even be changed within the game?

That's just weird. Something must have really gone wrong in your case for some reason, I certainly haven't run into such an issue. I mean, I had problems when I replaced my 16:10 screen with a 16:9 screen because obviously my new screen isn't able to handle 1920x1200, but I'm pretty sure the game never had a default setting beyond any of my screens' range.

Anyway, I think for issues like this one there's a "Safe Mode" shortcut, that one should launch the game with minimal settings and allow you to adjust them without actually digging through the Windows registry.
That's good to know. I'll try that on UFO: Aftermath, because I get the same problem on that, but can't even find it in the registry!
