Wishbone: I took "Proper widescreen support, including corrected menus" to mean that the menus had actually been, you know, corrected. Hence, I expected them to be in the selected resolution and aspect ratio, rather than just upscaled from 800x600 (or something like that, they are quite pixelated anyway) and having black bars.

Mind you, I'm not complaining that the menus haven't been redone, only that the description led me to believe that they had, and that I therefore thought the mod wasn't working as intended. I am still very impressed with the mod ;-)
I get what you're saying. :) Maybe for another potential update, some improvements could be made in that area. It's really the menu font that looks pixelated the most.

But there are corrected menus. That statement is not misleading. Certain menu screens did not translate well to widescreen resolutions. So UI elements had to be repositioned or resized, in order to make them easier to read and interact with.

Ah, yes it's probably the font that made me think otherwise. It's been too long since I played my disc version of the game for me to remember the menus in details, so I didn't notice anything had been changed.

I'm well into the game now, in 1920x1080, and having a blast. Thank you for that :-)

ewhac: I imagine there are a bunch of rights issues that (currently) prevent GOG from shipping the game with the Killer App Mod pre-installed. Being based on a movie, TRON 2.0 not supporting widescreen out of the box seems weird.

I re-installed this game from the original CD about two months ago after LoadingReadyRun featured the game in a videocast. After installing the above-mentioned patches, aside from some odd mouse behavior, it works fine. Are there any major differences/improvements between this version and the original CD release that would be an incentive to buy it again? (I mean, I probably will, anyway, but it'd be nice to know...)
i own the disc version as well and can say they seem to be exactly the same, the wonky mouse issue is still there but can be somewhat fixed by turning the polling rate down, AVP2 has the same issue (same engine i believe), but i still wish that was fixed.
Does anyone know why the Custom Play tab for Light Cycles is blank under Killer App? I can't figure out why it won't let the user customize the light cycle rounds. Also, it won't allow the user to add powerups in the other tab.

You have to play and finish the first 4 maps (one "Zone") before the Custom tabs become useful. (Not including the Tutorial map.)

And you have to finish all the Zones (4 of them, containing 4 maps each) to get access to all 16 maps in the Custom Play tab.

Thanks for the help!. Also, will that unlock the blue and orange (1,2,3) light cycles in the list? Or is that something different?

The mod adds a completely new roster of Light Cycle colors. Unfortunately, the game has a hard-coded limit on how many Light Cycles can be unlocked in Single Player. (Unlike Multiplayer, where the number of Light Cycles colors can be unlimited.)

So there's an option in the Mod Manager program that allows swapping back and forth between the old and new colors. (Note that if you use this option, you'll end up unlocking all the Light Cycles as you swap back and forth. Original and new sets.)

For the upcoming v1.2 of the mod, I've managed to remove the limit for Single Player. So all the colors will be available at once.

Sounds good!
All the unofficial patch does for me is prevent the damn game from working. I just load a permanent black screen...

Edit: Fixed it, desktop composition was to blame.

Cant install the Killer App Mod. Somehow it installes it till 99% and then it stucks (nircmdc.exe) the last 1% forever.
If the installer gets stuck, try installing in Windows Safe Mode. I talk about how to boot Windows in Safe Mode here: http://tronfaq.blogspot.com/2010/11/tron-20-killer-app-mod-help-and.html#safemode

The method mentioned for Windows 8 also works for Windows 10.

The developer of the software I used to create the installer, issued a fix for this problem. So this should no longer happen in the next version of the Killer App Mod when it's released. It only occurs in certain specific situations, depending on what tasks or services you have running in the background. (i.e. Another task/service is conflicting with the installer.)
Hi all,
I tried to make a new thread but it won't let me, it just stalls and never creates. This has been an ongoing GoG problem I have experienced.

Anyway, I just wanted to post that I can't even get the launcher to work UNLESS I am connected to the internet.

a) offline the launcher never start up, no matter how long I wait
b) if I am online my firewall reports run32dll wants to connect to games.metaservices.microsoft.com
c) if I allow that to happen the launcher comes up in a second
d) if I disallow it the launcher NEVER comes up.

Thoughts ?

First off, I just wanted to let everyone know that styggron's issue has nothing to do with the Unofficial Patch, or the Killer App Mod.

This is an old issue in Windows Vista and 7 that can happen with any game, and has to do with the Games Explorer feature that's present in both. This feature was removed starting with Windows 8. (Well, it's technically still there. But disabled.)

Every time you launch a game in Vista or 7, those versions of Windows want to add your game to the Games Explorer folder. (If they're on a whitelist of sorts, that is. Which TRON 2.0 is.) When they do that, they try to connect to a Microsoft server to download details about the game (thumbnail, date released, any version updates, etc).

If you have a firewall blocking outgoing connections, a game's launcher will hang because Windows won't let it progress until it finishes its attempt to add the game's details to the Games Explorer.

Your two options are: 1) Allow Windows to connect to Microsoft's server, or 2) Disable this behavior.

So if you want to disable this, how do you do it? Well, before I mention the solution, I just want to say: I take no responsibility if this causes any problems. The solution apparently works well and seems to have no ill effects, but try it at your own risk. (This does disable the Games Explorer, however.)

You need to run the Command Prompt as an Administrator, and type both these commands:
regsvr32 -u c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll
regsvr32 -u c:\windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll

This can be undone by typing these commands:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\SysWOW64\gameux.dll

Thank you so much for this.
I do apologise for posting it in here but I tried 5 times to create a thread and it always just hangs, it is a GoG problem that I have been plagued with a long time.

I am surprised this is happening with the GoG version as they are supposed to work offline.

I need to investigate to see what regsrv32 -u does first though :) Thank you for the post, lets hope it works.
:)

Also what I might do is rename the gameux.dll file and see if that does anything.
UPDATE: Could not rename/remove etc even admin does not have permissions and it would not let me add admin to allow me to do it. I could book safe mode and delete the dll to try it.

I'll try what the regsvr32 commands will do :) Thanks again

Ok tried the solution. No good.

When offline, wireless off etc, the launcher NEVER starts.
You can ONLY start the launcher when you are connected in some way.

The only difference is with the regsvr32 lines done, when you are connected online, the firewall does not detect any outgoing connections. But if you are totally offline, it never starts.

Sadly this does not solve the problem because it means I can never play Tron 2.0 without an internet connection as the launcher never comes up.

:( :(

If anyone can help that would be great
