every time i hit a button on my kb the game closes/crushes, not sure why that happens.

Sorry, I do not know the answer to that, but could you clarify which game you are playing: Total Annihilation or Total Annihilation - Kingdoms. Also, are you playing on Mac or PC and which OS are you using. Whoever might be able to help you probably needs some more information.
