I told a friend of mine about the Free Torchlight weekend and she downloaded it... When she tries to run the installer she gets an error "shell execute ex failed code 786 access to %1 has been restricted by administrator by rule %2".

When she right clicks and selects "Run as Administrator" she says nothing happens. Apparently this problem exceeds my Geek Level. Anybody else have any ideas?

she's running Window 7 Home Premium on a laptop (as am I, and I don't have this issue).
First thing to try is to download again (or check integrity - just ran md5 hash on my copy: 94115050fa50b69067aeecd0f476d390).

Otherwise - tips around the net seem to be to make sure there's no installation restrictions in place and check for viruses with that particular error.

Your friend has probably been corrupted. Delete your friend and try to download a new one.

Seriously, though, some of these games have trouble running in the default directory GOG tends to install them into. See if you can install to a different directory, such as

C:\Torchlight

instead of

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Torchlight
Well after talking with her some more, this is happening when she tries to open any GoG file. Since she has a young son, she has profiles set up so he can't access certain things... Unfortunately I think even her account has some limitations.... Since I've never made use of the profiles and used the default, I can't thing of any way to help her with it, other than getting her to bring over her laptop and try to get it up and running whatever way I can.

Ah well, thanks for trying to help anyway. :)
