I read where someone had great success using console controller with these games. I played 1 here using keyboard, but want to use a gamepad for 2 and 3.

I have various ones, but bought this Logitech PC gamepad. Using Win 10. Win 10 plugged and played. When I start TR2, I clcked on the Conrols tab before DosBox started. Enable joystick was checked.

So, was very happy to see that my joystick worked in menus...well sort of,...left and right worked.....but no buttons.

And, I'm guessing this is crux of my problem. Started new game. Left thumbstick controls Lara! Hooray. However, can't jump or draw weapons. Guessing because buttons on gamepad aren't responding, just like in the Menus.

So, how do I finish setting up the controller to fully work? Seems I'm quite close here. I went into Controls in the Menu and tried some User stuff, but didn't seem to work.

I do also have a PS1 Classic controller with a USB connection. But, figure this Logitech is a far better controller and made for PC, so wanted to try this first.

By the way, I figured it out...just needed a starter info on how to start mapping the buttons....figured it out and my Logitech controller is working like a champ:) Well, first long jump before get on Great Wall was kind of hard to do, but I managed. Hope tricky jumps don't become impossible at some point.
Well, this was working fine......got to 40 Fathoms area and was getting a little frustrated with the timed parts so thought maybe I'd change from the D Pad moment to the thumbstick......bad idea. I cannot get the User controls to re-recognize the D Pad. What the hell? Even still works fine...mostly. Almost got done with this area and can no longer swim straight now...she keeps rolling in water instead, near end.

Why on earth would it be working sort of, but I have errors, because have same keys assigned to controls....but it won't let me re-input the D Pad up and now changed down also. Very frustrating.

If only it made you "save" what you put in. I restored a save....I restarted the game. Nothing workings. Unplugged the controller. Guess I'm dead in the water(no pun intended) until I get this figured out.

Think I recall how you do it......move to selection...hit Enter on keyboard then do movement on controller....it's just not working for the damn D pad now. Did the fist time.
No answers here? I'm about at my wits end. The more I've tried to fix the settings, the more messed up it's gotten. No idea how to restore the settings, or why it suddenly isn't identifying the D pad. Or Thumbstick.

I also went into the TR 2 setup, disabled controller and re-enabled.

Hate to give up on the game, but am about to. Ridiculous. This is a very nice Logitech PC controller and it was working greatly.

Until now.

If you can find a way to get the controls back to the way they were (you may need to verify the game install), you can use the Mode button on the Logitech pad to swap the d-pad and left stick functionality. Assuming you're using the same ones I've used (F310 and F710), they also have a switch to use them in DirectInput mode as opposed to XInput mode. These older games were made with DirectInput in mind, and on a fresh install of TR2 and 3, I've been able to use my controller just fine in Dinput provided I go into the settings and map the buttons first.
I'm aware of that switch....if I don't have that pressed and lit, the D pad doesn't work.

I managed to somehow alter the settings and fool the game. The settings aren't what they were, but it's working.
