They simply freeze when they come on.You can get around them by pushing Escape,but it detracts from the game.There is also a music looping problem with the cutscenes. I am running it on WIndows XP SP3. T

I'm having the exact same problem with Tomb Raiders 2 & 3, I also have Win XP SP3 though mine is the Pro version. TR1 works fine for me however.

The FMV sequences in Tomb Raider 2 refuse to even try to run for me. The in-game cut-scenes done with the game engine work fine, but the pre-rendered videos don't work at all.

Both the pre-rendered FMV sequences and the in-game cut-scenes work in Tomb Raider 3.

Windows 7 64-bit, SP1.

Win7, 64bit, current version. Intel ICH7 Chipset. nVidia GTX570HD.

TR2 (TR3 not tested yet)

Playing in windowed mode at 1600x900. Three issues:

1. playing TR2 disables Aero.. looks ugly. Meh. TR1 doesn't do that (windowed at 1280x960).
2. cutscenes are all transparent. Like opacity is at 0.5x :D
3. cutscenes always play in fullscreen on display 1 (of 2), pushing my windows around, but at least they go back to their previous position after the cuscene.

Cutscenes don't freeze tho.

What freezes is TR1 when I [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL] out of the window (somehow [ALT]+[TAB] is disabled.. meeh) :D

The Aero being disabled is not a bug it's simply your system changing to some sort of compatible mode whic is not compatible with Aero...

The reason this isn't an issue with TR1 is that TR1 is running within DosBox and DosBox is fully compatible with Windows 7 so your PC doesn't have to run a compatibility mode...

Out of interest have any of you tried running them as admin? thats my defaulr fix for most issues and it generally works(though it's a pain in the ass too have to do with every DOSBOX game :( still watcha gonna do?

Bottom line: of this series, only TR1 works for me - TR2 and TR3 don't. A real disappointment.

The cutscene problem happens on XP and Vista as well as Windows 7, It is not a Windows 7 specific problem. Have you emailed GOG support about this problem? IF they get enough complaints they might actually do something about it.

Okay all my games seem to work now :) only the Cutscens on TR2 are a little bugged

I think people should know this: I am running Windows 7 64bits on an Acer Aspire 5750 laptop (Core i3 sandy bridge).
And, at first, excuse my bad English.
I have all original CD's of TR1, TR2 and TR3. So, I didn't bought Gog's version yet.
For curiosity, I tried to make TR2 run on my machine, only to try the Golden Mask (the TR2 "Gold" expansion), that I only heard of about some minutes ago (I know, this sounds absurd for a TR fan, but I really missed it all this time).
I installed the TR2 original game, installed the patch (from tombraiderchronicles site), and the game works fine - but with messed up, unwatchable intro movies and pre-rendered cutscenes. I tried all possible solutions that I found on web, but none of them worked.
And this is the point that I think people needs to know: on the same machine, I have Linux Mint 13 Maya 64 bits installed (dual boot). And ta-dah! Using Playonlinux (a frontend for Wine), I can play the game with everything working!!!! No messed up graphics, no misplaced movies, not a single lag!
Hope this fact can be of use for someone here on Gog.
By the way, Playonlinux has a huge collection of "game install presets", including many games on their Gog versions!

But seriously - there's an Idea coming up. One could try MS Virtual PC to emulate Win98 or XP.. hmm.. still have those old Win Setup CDs.. and there's VirtualBox too, which works just great with 64bit now..

Excuse me, but my very poor English really makes me unable to understand some possible subtleness in your words. So, I hope that you were kidding: I am saying nothing about Cygwin (I know nothing at all about Cygwin).
I didn't understand either what you mean with "virtual fool around"...
But the point is: I don't think that installing a virtual machine just to play a game worth the effort. I did not installed Linux Mint to do this, in fact I use Mint for general purposes.
My main concern here is to find a fix for the TR2 cutscene problem under Windows 7 64 bits, but I fear that no one can manage it. Not even Gog staff. What a shame...

Windows 7 and Vista have compatibility modes where you can set an app to run as if it were in Windows 98, right? TR2 experienced random frequent crashing in an Windows XP bottle under WINE, that went away when I ran it in a Windows 98 bottle.

My Windows 95 CD doesn't work anymore and I forgot the password for my virtual Windows 2000 installation (tho I doubt TR would work on NT based 2000 anyways).

Hm, well.. still leaves me the option to try virtual Debian + Wine *lol*


rampacy: Yea, I'm sure I could get it to work "somehow" with Windows 7... or well, that's what I already could manage... but I don't wanna play "somehow" - I like to play with the same comfort I had when I first played the TR series. Today this means to me in windowed mode, because I don't think I could ever get TR to understand what "second monitor" means ;-)

So, if I can't get it into a Windows 7 window, I now try to frame it into a complete virtual machine, where it has no chance of escaping from.

No, I didn't fear that you tried to do any harm to myself. I just feared that my English was not enough to understand if you were serious about "emulating old windows inside an emulated Linux session inside a new Windows" (at least it was as it sounds to me). But never mind about it.

What is important is that what you called "my virtualization idea" was not actually an idea. But now, that you mentioned it, I am pursuing it too!! hahahahahaha

Last night, I downloaded and installed Virtual Box. But unfortunately, it seems that Windows 3.x and Windows 95 and 98 virtual machines doesn't allow to change screen resolution, only delivering 640x480 with horrible 256 colors - what is not enough to a decent use, for example installing games like TR2 or TR3.

I don't want to use VMware. If you know some other virtualization software that can do that, let me know. By the way, how are you going on this "pursue" so far?

EDIT: Thankfully, there are smart people around! I learned how to make Virtual Box run a Windows 98 virtual machine on my laptop with 1024x768 32 bit graphics! I followed this tutorial: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=32989
This tuto allowed me to run Silver and any W98 compatible game as well, without the need of using Wine trhough my Linux Mint 13.
