We've just launched Timberborn Experimental Branch and it's available on GOG!

This is an opt-in based testing ground where new content goes before hitting the main game.

The “experimental” part is crucial. We’re doing this to gather early feedback from the players. As a result, some experimental features will be unfinished and/or bugged, and if something sucks, it might never make it to the normal branch. Also, the experimental branch is only available in English.

So what do we have for you? As you know, we’ve been preparing the first large content update for Timberborn – and here it is in its pre-baked form!

What's available?
Here's the quick list of what's available for testing starting November 24, 2021:

- Infinite metal production chain: Metal Deposits, Mines, Smelters
- Mechanical Water Pumps that transport water vertically
- New workplaces: Tapper's Shack, Aquatic Farmhouse, Wood Workshop
- New attractions: Lido, Mud Bath, Observatory
- Water plants and new trees: cattail, spadderdock, chestnut trees
- Additional goods from existing trees: pine resin, maple syrup
- Multiple recipes pickable in Grill, Gristmill, and Bakery

Note that depending on the feedback we get now, there might be more (or less) content in the update’s official release. If you wish to discuss the new features with us, join our Discord!

How to play?
Everyone who purchased Timberborn Early Access can play on Experimental Branch but you should be aware of the unfinished content and bugs. If that doesn’t scare you, follow the steps below.

- Right-click Timberborn in your GOG Galaxy client, select “Manage installation” and then “Configure”.
- Pick “Experimental Branch” from the “Beta channels” drop-down menu. The game will update itself and will now be launching in Experimental Branch until you change the branch again.

Note: saves used in Experimental Branch are kept in a separate folder (by default: C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Timberborn\ExperimentalSaves). We strongly recommend starting a new game.

What about offline installer?

Hello, hoomans?
Hello. We've asked the GOG team about that. Sadly, at the moment it's impossible to have separate offline installers for different branches of the same game. This means the offline installer we have available needs to match the most recent version of the main branch.
Thanks. But are you sure that you spoke to a hooman at GOG? Because I can only reach GOG bot on their support. Maybe you are something special. You bring the big fiat bucks and I'm just an useful idiot.

We both know it can be done on a snap if they actually wanted to do it.

It is not really a rocket science like artificially paywalling content and implementing malware then everybody involved pretends it is there for game analytics or whatever propaganda term they like to use.

+1 to a separate offline installer to the Experimental branch. One of the best benefits GOG has are their offline files without the need of installers or online connections.
As I understand it, there's not much we can do about it - but the installers should be there once the update is available on the main branch. On the bright side, the main branch release should be more bug-free than the experimental versions where the content is in a more, well, experimental state.
So happy that you made experimental available on GOG. Thank you
I bought this game despite EA because the updates were available in a DRM free format. And now when I wanted to play again I see you moved all the current updates to another branch locked behind DRM platforms.
I guess that's what I get for buying an early access game.

We got backstabbed.

Since they split early access to "early access main branch" + "early access experimental branch behind DRM" that collects user data and abuse it.

Now they even updated "early access main branch" the game on DRM platforms only.

I guess. It is game over. They become another scam business.

Edit: offline installer has been updated. Game wasn't updated on all platforms at the same time like it should be. There is no technical barrier. Also patch notes are only added valve's platform. This is not an honest practice. I'd like to distance myself from valve's platform as they support abusive practices from developers and publishers. So patch notes should be added on all platforms or at least at developers neutral platform.
