Heya,

Just installed Thief within the last 10 min and I can't get the videos to play. I've recently had an install of System Shock 2 work after following the guide found here (http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=520.0), but can't get the same steps to work for Thief.

To clarify, so far I've registered the LGVID.AX file via the regsvr32 command and I'm running Thief.exe as an admin. Any other suggestions to get the videos to play? I'm running Win 7 64-bit.

Go there and download ddfix. It should solve all issues regarding running Thief on Win 7 (it's what I've been using for years through XP, Vista and 7). Make sure to read the documentation before installing it (I recommend to download the GUI version, it's easier). Depending on your system you may have to adjust manually the parameters in ddfix.ini.

ddfix works for both Thief Gold and Thief 2. It also works for System Shock 2.

If you also want widescreen, you need to install another patch on top of that.

ddfixGUI instantly crashes if I try to launch it with administration rights, and is not runnable without it.
Guess I will have to looks up the videos on youtube before each mission
I have the same problem. Also tried the manual installation with some hex editor but the videos still didn't work. I have windows 7.

You don't need Dark Widescreen anymore with the latest DDfix. Please see this thread at TTLG with me bumbling around trying to get it to work, and the responses below my post: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449&p=2094416#post2094416
Not solved for me. Am running on Win7 and did the ddfix thing and it didn't work.

I had the same issue running Windows 7. I was able to play the videos by opening a command prompt and registering the proper codec.

Run (as administrator) > cmd

cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64

regsvr32 ir50_32.dll

Afterwards the videos played normally. I really love this game!
What do you do if the installer fails catastrophically because it can't register that dll file? That's what is happening to me under windows xp...

neither did this, i tried running it like the readme says but the .exe you are supposed to run crashes immediately after starting and there is no where for me to mod the command line like the readme says to

Nor me. No such pathway ( C:\Windows\SysWOW64 )
I bought this game from gamer's gate a while back and had the same problem with videos not running. None of the thief community fixes worked for me either. But then I got SWAT3 from GOG and it experienced the same problem (except the videos not playing would crash the game). I finally found the solution to SWAT3's video problems and magically Thief's video's started working too.

The fix is downloading this DirectX End user runtimes here.

Hopefully this helps at least some of you with the videos not playing.
Had the same issue trying running the game as administrator
This issue is not solved!
None of provided solutions works for me. ddfixGUI crashes when run as administrator (Windows 7 HP x64), ddfix.dll and manual editing of thief.exe works (no crashes and I can play in 1600x1200) but video still not showed in game.
execing "regsvr32 ir50_32.dll" not helped.
DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) installed - not helped.
Please, provide working solution!
For Windows 7 x64 users: ddfixGUI.exe is an .NET assembly with CPU target=ANY so it crashes on x64 platforms. To fix it, you must get utility corflags and patch ddfixGUI.exe like this:
corflags /32bit+ ddfixGUI.exe

But in my case this still not helped. Still no in game video.

Update: Sorry, guys! My fault - I forgot to run the game as admin. After starting as administrator I now able to watch intro, credits and intermission videos :-)
Or maybe this is because I also installed K-lite codecs with indeo support, don't know for sure.
