Yes, forgot about changing directories needed for 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and Vista! Thanks ymgve and Robbeasy for setting that right.

The way I typed it is for 32 Bit versions of Windows, last time I installed the game it was on Win 7 32 Bit which was on my lappy.

XP users just need to Google Indeo Video codec and they can install the program to get videos running.

Running the game in administrator mode was enough to fix the movies issue for me (Windows 7 64bit).

If you don't want to uninstall your codec pack, you can use ddfix, available here :

With this you can patch the executable to force video recognition, normally even without using the command prompt (check if your codec pack adds Indeo support though, if it still doesn't work). You can also force 32bits and a higher resolution with this utility.

Also as you paid GoG for your game they should bloody well provide the fix, not the thief community at large.

When you registered the dll file did you get a confirmation saying that it was succesfully done?

For anyone having issues running the command line instructions here. Easier way to do it.

Open notepad and copy paster the following text :


cd c:\windows\sysWOW64

regsvr32 ir50_32.dll

pause


Then select save as and give it a name without spaces that you will remember (something like ThiefVideo) but put .bat at the end of the name. So in my example it would be :

ThiefVideo.bat

Save this onto your C Drive root c:\

The icon for it should be a little window with a cogs in it.

Now just double click the file to run it and the computer will do the rest for you.

Please note that this fix is for Windows 7 & Vista 64Bit

What version of Windows are you running and is it 32Bit or 64Bit

If you are on Vista or 7 go into your control panel and select system, when it opens on the main screen it will tell you if it is 32 or 64 bit under the header System Type in the list.

If you are running 32 Bit version or Windows do the same as the above post in creating a file using notepad. However, remove the first line of text starting with cd

Same problem as a couple of fellows above. Windows 7 64bit. The notepad .bat file registers ir50_32.dll fine (I get a popup telling me it was successful) and ddfix is working, but the videos will not play from the game.

I've restarted the machine, I've reinstalled the game, I've re-registered the dll, I run Thief as an admin, but no dice. They play fine in VLC, too, which is really irritating. So if anyone finds a fix for people stuck at this stage, do let us know.

Converted the videos and everything works for me. I hope this is the same problem you're having and this fixes it.

Tried all these fixes and still can not get it working. If I run it normally the videos just don't show up, if I run it as admin the game just crashes.

I've tried looking for all the codecs installed on my computer and uninstalling them, could it be another codec still causing this?

I can watch all the videos outside of the game fine though, which is odd.
