Hi guys,

I did a quick search but didn't come up with an answer. Since next time I install this on another computer, I'll likely have forgotten about this, I figured I'd just post this and help myself the next time (and maybe someone else as well).

If it's redundant, please ignore ;)

- install T2:TMA using GOG installer
- install GOG patch (which renames Thief2.exe to Thief2_ND.exe)
- install T2X - but point the installer to the right folder (for me it was C:\GOG Games\Thief 2 - The Metal Age\)
- copy Thief2_ND.exe to Thief2.exe

Now the T2X launcher (& start menu shortcut) should work properly.

Thanks v47, but for all those who don't want to do too much research and wade through broken links, but just install what GOG provided us with, my post may still be of use :)

(by the way are you sure that your post still works with the current installs of T2? Since I don't see anything in your post about renaming the .exe)

In fact, I don't know which 3rd party fixes are applied by the GOG patch and I don't really care all that much about having texture packs and stuff like that, just an easy install and a game that works.

I believe TafferPatcher can handle the renamed exe properly. also, if you insist on doing things your way, make sure to also copy over cam_ext.cfg to the T2x folder, else issues may occur.

Thanks V, can you elaborate about the cam_ext.cfg? Copy it over from where or rename it from what?

copying the one from your T2 folder should work nicely. NewDark (the updated engine/exe) needs this file in T2x folder to work properly, if memory serves.

http://www.bogadocious.com/thief.html has a T2X download that can be used with DarkLoader or FMSel. 'Run it like you would any other FM.' (Though DL may identify it under the name 'Betrayal'.)

Seems like a strange question - when using the GOG installer in 2018 the Thief 2 exe does not have the "_ND" prefix any longer but the download/install seems to indicate it is using ND 1.26. What then is the procedure for installing T2X over the contemporary T2-GOG install?
