Hi all!

Being a long-time fan of the the Thief-series, I've been looking forward to this appearing on GoG for quite a while. I just want to know whether the version being sold here is compatible with modern machines (Vista and newer).

I don't mind changing to single-core affinity for the game, or perhaps installing a single patch, but when I bought the first Thief game from Gamersgate last year I gave up trying to get it working after a whole day of looking up all sorts of esoteric solutions. The support team said that there wasn't really anything to be done, as it was the old version straight from the CD-ROM, without any conversion-work being done to make it work with contemporary computers.

So, what are your experiences? Can you run this on a modern machine without unreasonable amounts of work? Have this been a "safe buy" for you guys?

Worked immediately after installation for me, including movies. No widescreen, but after easily applying TGfix (stickied on top of the forum) that works too.

What OS are you running? Consensus seems to be that it's fairly easy to get working on Windows 7 and quite a bit harder on Windows XP. If you're on Windows 7 (or Vista, probably) you likely simply need the TGfix and possibly the DDfix, both of which are linked in the sticky thread. For XP, you might have a little more trouble, so keep an eye on the forums and see what people's experiences are.

I think GOG fixed the multi-core problem, but I'm not sure.

I'm running on Vista, a laptop no less, and I've had no problems. I haven't had to apply any fixes whatsoever. But my graphics are an onboard Intel; I think that may make a difference.

I'm running it on a vista laptop too, so I'll cross fingers that I'll get a smooth installation too : )

It runs perfectly on my GeForce 9800GT on XP x64, GOG have fixed the issue with multi-core CPUs, and have attempted to fix the problem with modern graphics cards (the OS should be immaterial, so long as you install to a non-UAC protected directory). Some people still have a few issues with the graphics card bug, let us know if you need a hand getting it working.

Installed it, and got it running! The core game runs perfectly, but it hickups a bit when I enter the menu, map or likewise and doesn't show videos.

Probably nothing a basic patching can't fix, I'll look into it whenever I have a spare afternoon, but it's no rush, I can run the game just fine.
