TTC is a physical boxed copy. Subject to changes in stock. One day, it'll be zero assuming no more are produced. It's also subject to LOCALE with shipping costs considered. Paying for a digital copy, I really do not know what is wrong. b1kerdude, for all your good intentions, you're starting to get a little jarring with your little mini-crusade.

I love Thief as much as the next Taffer. I'm happy that a incredible classic is being released at a good price and at a good site.
A new build should be up that addresses cinematic and Direct3D issues.

This certainly makes the issue more tolerable as the game becomes much more operable "out of the box".

Also thanks for clarifying. I won't argue with the experts, but most companies claim that any derivative works off of their IP belongs to the original IP holder. Based on this and a few other things, I'm surprised its a legal issue to include fan works (again, only speaking on hardware issues like widescreen support)

So we need to redownload the file?

BuckSexington: So we need to redownload the file?
Or you can get necessary files from here:
http://files.gog.com/support/thief_gold_video_fix.zip

Installer should just run out-of-box now.

UGH I HATE GOG.

(Kidding. Also: omg you work for GOG now.)
Isn't it possible to include a repack of the best (in GoG opinion) mod files and put it as freely downloadable with the wallpapers et cetera? Just not to roam aimlessy in the forums in order to obtain just the same thing.

the thread you're looking for has been stickied. you really don't have to roam aimlessly in order to find what you need.

I found it before coming here, actually. :)
Since the topic is "Could GoG Have Done More with This Release?" I tried to give a suggestion in that direction: a quick to use, complete megapack, at disposition for everyone, even the lazy ones like me ;)

Including mods (even unofficial patches) with commercial releases of games is an extremely slippery road. Not every modder endorses this. There was a bit of drama when Interplay shipped Fallout games with some fixes that Timeslip coded. Timeslip is also the coder behind ddfix by the way, so he/she might not be okay with GOG releasing or repackaging ddfix.
The only thing GOG could perhaps have done, is liberate the source code to dark engine from Square Enix, but that wish is at best a TTLG pipedream.

Timeslip is a GOG employee.

Here's a delightful bit of conversation from over at TTLG:

Renzatic: For various legal reasons, they couldn't include this fix alongside the packed release.

Timeslip: This is actually the bit that makes me laugh most. At least one of the ddfix authors works for GOG. If they'd wanted to use it, (or at least certain pieces of it.) I don't believe there'd have been any legal issues involved.

Thiev: As for that... which one? >.>
Taffer is so stealthy we absolutely have no idea who you're reffering to.

Timeslip: Me!

Wow, that is a surprise. Someone finally recognized talent i say.
I should clarify that a bit; I'm not an official employee, I've just done a (tiny) bit of external work for them. I don't even get blue text. :p

But interplay including sfall was different. I had no problem with them including sfall; my problem was that they had stripped out the credits and readme files, and that they'd buggered up the setup so that it didn't actually do anything. The credits were a big thing in sfall; unlike ddfix which was entirely my code up until, umm, 1.3.something, sfall had code from almost a dozen people in at that point.
Ah, wasn't evident from that exchange. Thanks for the info :)
