GoG should post some modding guide, just like they did with Torment.
I ran this game "out-of-the-box" with no issues except non-working movies. It took me roughly 30 seconds to fix this. I'm pretty happy with this release. There are literally a dozen or more releases like Battle Isle, Earth 2140, DK2 and BoA that are FLAT OUT BROKEN GAMES, but this was not one of them.

Which OS?

Veloxi: With that said, are these issues something that GoG could have done with their release, or were these beyond their programming expertise?
Well a few things -

DDFix and all the other patches that were made for the community by the community on a non-profit basis. As GoG are a commercial intrest, they would not have been able to 'use' or otherwise 'borrow' said patches. All the fixes you guys need for this game and Thief2/3 can be found over on ttlg.com. But going back to your point, I will just repeat somthing one of my fellow ttlg'r said...

Irenaeus.: The price is high, GoG should not have even allowed the $9.99 price point, as it's continually abused by publishers who want to milk their back catalog for every cent they possibly can.
And this is double cheeky when you consider you can get all 3 games for that price - Google "Thief: the Complete Collection"

Fred_DM: you have to come to terms with the fact that GoG staff cannot do wonders.
You just crushed thousands of souls! D:

GoG/SE did that when they charged the amount they did.

He came over from a forum that is well known for constantly dripping the worst kind of nerd rage. What do you expect? :D

O..k... if your happy paying $10 for 1 game when you could have got all 3 thief games, then you go right ahead...

nb. said forum came up with all the fixes that the majority of you non-nerds will need to get this game working...

I already own all three games. In fact, they never leave my harddrive. I came here to gift this game to my friend who isn't computer savvy and wouldn't play Thief if he had to fuss with making it work. Unfortunately, it looks like this version is a little light on the new features, but this isn't a guy who will be upset that he can't play it in native resolution or anything.

$10 seems like a fair price to me pay in order to share my favorite game with someone. I paid more than that for lunch today. I just don't see why there's anything to whine about here. The Thief collection still exists on Amazon, it's not like that option was removed.

I appreciate what your doing for your buddy but, the irony is that you'll probably have to do some of the fixes with this version as you would have had to with the TTCC version.

And my issue with GoG and companies like them is the vastly over inflated prices they come out with. Anyway it seems a lot of people don't seem to care about being ripped off and some companies are happy to rip them off, so I shall say no more.
Seriously, I don't think GOG is to blame for the price itself. GOG has two prices, $5.99 and $9.99 but it's the publisher that ends up choosing the price they want (in this case Square Enix). So if you really want to complain about the price complain to Square Enix.

As I see it the only way for GOG to prevent that would have been to tell Square Enix: "Sorry but in this case we won't distribute your game". And they would have been flamed for not being able to get Thief on GOG.

So what would you have them do?
I'll just chime in here with this: fan patches are something that GOG.com can rarely include with our releases. In some situation where the fan fix was authored solely by one person and that person is well known and easy to contact, it's possible that we can ask that author and receive her or his permission to use the fix--if the pubblisher / developer that we're distributing the game for allows it as well. Other times, it's very hard to decide who created the fan fix, whether it's essential, whether some people might want to use other fan fixes, whether that fan fix work on all OSes, and et cetera.

You can see this is a complex issue.

Please don't think that we're not aware of the fan fixes; as it happens, several of the GOG staff--me included!--are big fans of the Thief games and have used those same fixes on their own installs of Thief: Gold and Thief 2: The Metal Age. But we're not currently able to include these well-known fixes for the ever=popular "legal and licensing issues". Our apologies if you don't like it, but whenever legal issues get involved with business, the result is usually rather like a camel: a product of compromise, not inspiration.
