So, I got my edition of gameinformer magazine, and I saw what looked like a homosexual ninja on the front, so I lol'ed.

Then I saw "THIEF THE CLASSIC STEALTH SERIES LEAPS TO NEXT GEN".

I am so close to ripping this goddamn magazine apart. I read the article so let me summarize what we're probably going to be getting in this new "Thief" game, it's not REALLY Thief.

-Linear levels

-Terrible art style, the old one is basically almost gone....

-BETRAYALS up the *** (Don't know if I can swear on these forums or not...)

-Remember that crap idea in Thief 3 of walking through the city, or the hub world, yeah that's back.

Ever wondered how Garrett gets to each mission, why of course he swings and jumps into peoples windows in their apartments, over merchant carts, and over buildings, letting about 9001 people see him on the way.

I would elaborate but, it just saddens me to see the once amazing series be made to ruin, :(.

God I love Thief, but I hate this new "Thief"
Sadly, I can't say I'm surprised. It always seemed that the Thief story was finished with the third game, so I didn't even see why one would want a new Thief game. It seemed destined to be terrible. Unless it were a new protagonist or something, but I knew they wouldn't do that.

I quite liked Deus Ex: Human Revolution, though, which made me briefly hopeful for Thief 4, but then I'd hear rumors of everyone quitting the development team or something similar. I decided it's best to just ignore it. Good thing we can still get the original games here on GOG.

Don't forget that they said that they're taking out "supernatural" elements.
So you can say goodbye to the nature vs. technology dichotomy.

I suppose that really explains it all. It's a reboot for a younger audience who are unfamiliar with the older games and are too "spoiled" by current day trends and visuals in action gaming. I think the fans of the older Thief titles are just better off ignoring this altogether. That's what I'm going to do, at least.
Don't forgot the most important part: "Focus Mode"!

Now with Focus Mode you too can:

- Light up a dark room

- See all alternate pathways lit up like vents

- See all searchable items in the room (desk drawers, etc..). Except, they've made it even better. Only things with items in them will actually light up, so no wasting time with empty containers!

Next Gen Thief! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh.
The only thing this reboot lacks to make it a complete travesty is a behind-the-ass-camera view.

Don't feel left out, join the disappointment ;). Behind-the-ass-camera test view,

I don't think it will be that bad. Hopefully. Hahaha, who am i kidding?

Point Man:
Assassin's Creed... really?

Next up, Garrett uses precision throwing knives to "quietly" take out enemies in mid roll... thieves do that... right?

He has a hook that from the sounds of it works like Batman's from Arkham Asylum/City. Does that count?

Also i believe the reason it said Assassin's Creed is probably because the person who designed the new Garret is the same person who designed the Assassin's from Assassin's Creed.

Thief 4 will feature a VATS-like system for escaping.

"Thief 4 will also add a major new mechanic called Focus. It works like Detective Mode did in the Batman: Arkham games, and highlights scalable walls, extinguishable lights and fingerprints that can be analysed. It also works as a sort of Bullet Time, as you can use it to slow down time while pickpocketing.

Gathering Focus lets you accumulate Attack Points, which basically work as emergency “oh crap!” buttons and let you pull off emergency escapes. This may be a lot like the VATS system Bethesda used in Fallout 3 and Obsidian used in Fallout: New Vegas, where you pause time and aim for specific body parts. For instance, you can use Attack Points on an enemy's chest to shove him out of the way."

Oh boy. It just gets better doesn't it?

Edit: I found this on the looking glass forums. Quite funny:

Can you spot the difference?

Thief 4 is by the same developer who made Deus Ex Human Revolution, and if that game was any indication, these guys will do the original games justice while integrating more modern gameplay.

Although some of the things that have been revealed about the game may seem like betrayal, I do think you guys are taking things way out of context.
I agree with Justinian. This anti-everything nowadays is just silly.

"Probably", is definitely subjective bullshit.

You've pulled this out of your ass sir.

Very subjective but definitely far from terrible.

The Hub world system is for me personally an improvement over rigid mission structure.

Oh ok! You hate it? Where did you get it?

Well, obviously we're working with incomplete information. But, to me, the only good thing I've heard about Thief 4 is that it's by the same developer as Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Everything else has been bad... rumors of devs quitting, the new look for Garrett which I really don't like, and hints at game systems that sound like they'll really compromise what I love about the Thief games.

Contrast this with what I was hearing about Human Revolution while it was in development, which was almost entirely positive. Glowing previews, high praise from players who played the leaked code, etc. There were a bunch of people complaining about the UI though (highlighting objects), so I guess that was a negative, but then the devs introduced the ability to turn it off.

If you take a look at the CVG article that Point Man linked, it sounds pretty bad. The devs talk about having lost sight of the vision, and having to bring in a new producer to "figure out the original mandate". Contrast that with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, where the devs claimed to have spent a large amount of time just playing the original two Deus Ex games to help them determine what they'd need to have in Human Revolution.

I really hope I'm pleasantly surprised about Thief 4, but I'm not optimistic.
See i find what youve wrote completely acceptable, being cautious about a product that most of us care deeply for, but what i find ridiculous is that most people just start making stuff up and denouncing the title before they even see it properly.

Sure you can comment on how Garret looks (which is again rather subjective and i dont think its that far off as some of you are trying to portray him), you can also voice concern about object highlight (remains to be seen whether its an asset or disconnect from character), but claiming outright betrayal all over the place is just non-sensical.

So, I'm dumb for writing on a forum what I think about a topic in which they state (Gameinformer btw)

"They are sticking to some of the original lore.....Garrett was expelled from the keepers" (Facepalm).

Some? Not all, interesting, why not?

LHB4:
Expelled? O.o

Did they misread something? Just decide to switch things up?
