I bought Theme Park yesterday as I loved playing it back in the day.

I get as far as starting a game but the moment I use my mouse or keyboard it returns to the Menu. I've tried on a laptop and PC to the same effect. Both are on Windows 10, but I've tried running as Administrator in compatibility mode to no avail. How can I make this playable?

I have Theme Hospital on GOG and that works without any issues whatsoever.

Many thanks

Heya how do you start the game?

Use the shortcut from your start menu or start the game via gog galaxy.
It should open a window with Dosbox and a selection menu for some options.
For example configure sound/music first (if you have not already).

The menu also starts the game.

After the intro you have to type in a profile name.
Remember that profile name and type it the same way every time, otherwise a new profile is created (you can re-enter it every time you restart the whole game).

In main menu start a new game/park.
Type in all info you want and set it up as you want.
Press the checkmark.

On the worldmap select the highlighted cup.
An info screen about UK opens and you can "buy land" and press the checkmark again, the game starts.

Maybe you missed a step?

I don't think I described my issue very well - sorry.

I can open Theme Park from within GOG and go through the start where I fill in my nickname, set my parameters and buy land. Then the game takes me to a park that has some stuff in it (regardless of whether I select "first game" or not - see screenshot). The moment I move the mouse I am returned to the menu with F1, F2, F3, F4 F5 and F6. Nothing is saved and I have to start from scratch - done this repeatedly :(.

Regards

Heya,

I think you have to disable the tutorial in the screen section, where you edit your gameplay settings.

The last option, it asks if this is your first game, say: no. It disables the tutorial than.

For reference: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/603066465?t=0h3m19s

I type my profile name and select "setup new park".
Put in all parameters as I like them and the tutorial section is set to "no" (I played the game already... lol).

There is a demo game, which is like a screensaver when you idle for too long in the main menu, without moving the mouse.
I think that is what is being started, but not after like some minutes. It's odd.

Hope this helps.

I have tried clicking No on first game but always get the same screen. Maybe I need to leave it longer to load the game if my screenshot was a screensaver? I'll try it and report back.

Edited to add: I left the screensaver for a few minutes and was eventually returned to the Menu screen. I have also now tried uninstalling, restarting the computer and reinstalling to no avail.

Many thanks and regards

Heya,

wow that is really odd.

Did you watch the Twitch highlight, which I linked? Did you see any difference in what you do?

Cheers

I have watched the link you gave - the only thing I didn't do was click "Buy land", but did click the tick to actually purchase. That one little thing seems to have been very important because when I tried doing that I was taken to an empty park just like in the link! It looks like

Thank you very much for your help - it looks like my issue is solved and I can start to play!
