Hello everyone,

I'm very interested in TH and have the game on disk that is the Windows version. I'd like to have the game on my GoG account, too but I read this version comes with the DOSbox. Before I buy TH I want to know what differences are between both versions. One of them should be the music. Is it possible to change the files or do I have to get along with an slighty different DOS game?

If you look at the disk you'll notice that it comes with both a windows and a dos installer. The dos and windows versions use the same resources, including the same XMI files for midi music. The difference is that the windows version included it's own interpreter for playing those files, whereas dosbox is pretending that you have some other midi device.

Unlike an mp3 or wav file, xmi files only tell the computer what instruments and what notes to play at what time, not exactly how it should sound - so I'm afraid dumping the windows music files in wouldn't make any difference at all. You could fiddle with the midi/soundcard settings in dosbox but I doubt you could recreate the same sound.

Similar reasoning goes for any other difference you might find as all the resources were identical.
Thx for that little lesson :)
I have the original game boxed and used to play with the Windows install. I haven't noticed any difference with the DOS version on GOG except the sound which was easily fixed using this thread:

I assume a windows version would also have touch screen support?

I don't see why, it was made for Windows 95.
