Hello,

I've been playing the Mac version from GOG for a few days, and it was working fine until last night. I'm up to level 6 or 7, and suddenly the game is so slow that I can't play it any more. My staff walk around very very slowly - literally taking one step per second.

I'm playing on a MacBook that's about three years old. I thought maybe the Mac was just overheating, so I gave up and shut it down last night, but today it's no better. I've tried loading different saved games and restarting a completely new game, but I still have the same problem. Even with a completely empty hospital, if I hire one receptionist she starts walking around in the same slow, jerky way.

Any ideas for what I can try to fix this? I was having so much fun!

ETA: I also tried switching to lo-res graphics. Didn't help.

I'm an idiot - the game speed was set to slowest! I didn't change it deliberately, so I think my cat may have walked across the keyboard. Next!
=)

You (or your cat :P) have probably clicked on "1". That changes the speed to the slowest. "3" is normal. Handy if you see a rat ;)

I found out just by coincidence btw, so don't feel bad.
I have the same problem. A few other forum posts suggest downgrading the DOSBox.conf file from 0.74 to 0.73, I can't find any DOSBox files on my mac so if anyone knows how to do this that could help. Another user said they switched to OpenGL graphics, not sure how to do this either, have done a bit of searching but no obvious 'how to' anywhere.

I'm a bit slow in replying :D, but here is where you can find the dosbox preferences.conf file.

RIght-click on the game app and select "Show package contents", then /Contents/Resources/Theme Hospital.boxer ("show package contents" again).

The file is called "DOSBox Preferences.conf", open it with a text editor (I use TextEdit). You'll probably want to make a copy before you make any changes so you can go back to it if anything breaks. This page here describes all the lines and what you can change: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf
