Hi guys.

So I picked up this timeless classic yet again. I simply find it inresistable when it comes to micromanagement games.

I got one "problem" though. At a epidemic my patients might have to go from one building to another.
This results in an instant visit from a health inspector.

Am I the only one experiencing/noticing this??

I find it really odd that everytime they go out the building doors the epidemic fails instantly??

This is pretty annoying, as there is nothing you can do about it, at least if your starting building is fairly small. If the patients 'only' need to go to the GP or pharmacy you are often okay, but if they start legging off to the ward, Operations Room or so forth, we're kind of boned. Best bet at that time is to send every other smitten patient home, and hope they leave before the health inspector shows up.

It's a pretty poor design I think, and there should have been proper recognition of when patients are just going to a different room that happens to be in a different part of the hospital, and when they are genuinely leaving the hospital.
This explains a lot! I’m having massive troubles with these epidemics and this bug seems to be one of the causes. It is also aggravating that marked patients don’t get their treatment right away. I had a very simple epidemic of two infected patients fail because they would just keeping running through the hospital, even though the pharmacy had no waiting list. If you can, avoid these challenges, the reputation damage is usually not that severe, although the fine definitely is.
One cheap workaround that I found - if you get an epidemic notification, save the game and restore, then when you click the epidemic button it will disappear without having to try to vaccinate anyone.

This is exploiting a bug - not fun! On first levels you may try to cure the infected patients. On latter ones just always choose to pay fine - it's better that way.

Not necessarily, the fines can be massive! In later levels money can also become a problem with more expensive diagnostic and treatment rooms, in addition to steep training costs. If the fine is too high, there is a slim chance that you are better off if you try to cover it up. If it fails due to above-mentioned bugs, you can try throwing out those patients before the health inspector arrived. If you’re lucky, they will only fine for a very small amount, if at all (might even be a bonus if the patients are not there before the inspector arrives).

IMO worse than fine is reputation hit. Money come, money go, but reputation is hard to restore, especially when you're closer to the end of the year and you don't meet the level's criteria.

But you do incur a hit to your reputation either way. I found it quite negligible thus far, but I think we can agree that there are multiple options available, depending on on what you can spare. However, especially in later levels epidemics occur at a higher frequency. I found the fine the worst part of this.

Yep, you suffer either way, but that's inevitable and you just choose the lesser evil. When your hospital works properly, sooner or later you'll have plenty of money to pay a fine with :>
As discussed elsewhere, designing good waiting areas helps a lot. But even with big outbreaks, I usually try to treat them, as it is a fun little mini-game.
