CuervoJoe: Sorry to bother you, but how would I turn off the "hide known file extensions" option?
avatar
SirPrimalform: It differs from one windows version to another and I honestly can't remember where the option is, but googling it along with the version of windows you use should find you the relevant information.

From that point it's just a question of making absolutely sure that the file I gave you has the exact name "MDI.INI". If it turns out that windows is hiding the extension then what looks like MDI.INI to you is actually MDI.INI.jpg.
Excellent, that fixed it, thanks man.
This worked immediately, thanks so much :)
Works perfectly! THANK YOU! Compared to the open source Corsix-th theme hospital, the GOG default midi config is a disgrace! GOG is doing a disservice to all customers if they do not replace the default with this ini. I will send an email to customer service saying as such :)
I'm unable to download the attached picture because it apparantly contains errors. Could you please reupload the image?

Haha, it "contains errors" because it's not really a .jpg. I'm pretty sure the file is fine, but I'll check.

The file is fine, you're supposed to be downloading it, not viewing it. ;)

Right click on the link and choose save as.

Did you try my fix? If so, what problems did you run into? The fundamental basics of the fix should work on the Mac version so if you encountered a problem we can probably solve it.
Thanks a lot, I followed your advice and now I have the Windows version music, which is just excellent!!!!
Hi guys,

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I didn't see any point in creating a new one for the same thing.

Anyway, has anyone discovered the same fix as above, but for the Mac version?

Thanks in advance.

Apologies also for only replying 2 years later, but did you actually try the fix above? If so, what happened when you did? GOG's Mac version is the same as its Windows version: the DOS game running in DOSbox.

Factually wrong 2 year necro? Mac version is packaged with Boxer Standalone. Depending on the specifics the fix may be nearly the same (different file & different location). Don't have the game or I would check myself. If you are so inclined you can.
From Windows or Linux download the Mac version, open the DMG with 7-zip, open the .hfs file in 7-zip (entails temporarily extracting the compressed .hfs), browse down into the .app folder (some games are wrapped in an outer .app folder), browse into the .boxer folder, open the Game Info.plist XML file, search for "ProgramPath" or "LauncherPath" keys, for example. The string value is the launch command. If it points to bxlaunch.bat then you can simply edit the file as described. If it's launching the game directly then you need to change Game Info.plist file to launch setsound.exe or add <key>BXLaunchers</key>.

MoO 2 example:
<key>BXLaunchers</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>BXLauncherPath</key>
<string>C.harddisk/ORION2.EXE</string>
<key>BXLauncherTitle</key>
<string>Master Of Orion 2 Singleplayer</string>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>BXLauncherPath</key>
<string>C.harddisk/MULTI.BAT</string>
<key>BXLauncherTitle</key>
<string>Master Of Orion 2 Multiplayer</string>
</dict>
</array>

Boxer is DOSbox, ergo the Mac version is still the DOS version. The differing location on the Mac is irrelevant, the fix is replacing the file wherever it is on your system. What do you mean about it being a different file?

No, not really. Too many changes: SDL ripped out, image mounting differences, etc. Sure core of it still uses DOSBox, and yes the game is the same DOS version.

I was considering the "solution" to be running setsound.exe. Which file you edit to do that is different. Your MDI.INI would likely work. He did rework MIDI/Munt support, but I think those changes are on the "outside".
