I noticed the music in this game is not Midi like I expected. I believe it's Sound Blaster 16 or Adlib? Is there anyway to change this?

I know how to do it with the version I DOSBox'd myself, but I have no idea if GOG included the setup.exe in their version.

Out of curiosity, how did you change it with your own version of the game?

DOSBox? When I had this game as an original, back in the day, it was a windows executable. This is a DOS version?

I ran the setup program (also in DOSBox) to set up the sound. I can't remember exactly what I picked though, but it was some kind of external midi device. In the DOSBox config, I then made sure that the external MIDI was routed through to the windows MIDI. This got me music that sounded like the Windows version. The disc had both versions on, there's no real difference apart from the fact that the Windows version is now a pain in the arse to get working.

Does this install also contain both versions? I had the original working quite well on Vista 64 some years ago. I just installed it, set compatibility to Win2k and ran it and it worked.

Ok, I've just had a look and I've found out how to do it. The program is called "setsound.exe" and it's in the SOUND folder in the HOSPITAL folder. If you can't run it, I might be able to send you my sound configuration file. Sorry, I couldn't say because I don't have the GOG version. I still have my disc and just made my own GOG style self contained DOSBox version, so I have no need to buy it here.

Unfortunately, I can't run it. It says that it doesn't work with my version of Windows (Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit). I think you might have to link me your sound config file instead.

Did you remember to remove the .jpg from the replacement file?

EDIT: You don't have Windows set to "hide known file extensions" do you? That will stop you removing the .jpg extension.
This isn't anything that you couldn't do yourself, it's just most people don't know how to use DOSBox properly (which you need to run the sound setup program).

It differs from one windows version to another and I honestly can't remember where the option is, but googling it along with the version of windows you use should find you the relevant information.

From that point it's just a question of making absolutely sure that the file I gave you has the exact name "MDI.INI". If it turns out that windows is hiding the extension then what looks like MDI.INI to you is actually MDI.INI.jpg.
