Hickory: No, what I proved is that nobody can do a damned thing for you (or me) with the complete lack of information provided. Wake up!
I've already stated I have attempted the work around listed here. Whether that be the deletion of the services, and renaming/deleting of the DLL.

What else do you want to know? Its not going to make a difference because you have no clue. But in case anyone else reading actually wants to help feel free to ask any config questions beyond the below.

Win10 (clean install as of a few weeks ago)
I don't let anything not essential run in the background, i even run anything work related in VMs so i don't muddy up the OS.

galaxy/game directory not on the C:
100% SSD setup(no spinning platter drives)
16gb ram
AMD 8350
R9 290x (not running the crimson beta crap)

Did you try disabling "Game Overlay" in the configure menu? It's not starting right now for me either unless I disable Game Overlay.

Same problem here, GOG update, game wont start now. After clicking "play" nothing happens, then screen goes black for a second and we're back at the start screen. Do something about this, stuff seems serious.
I've unchecked "In-Game Overlay" but the game won't start for me!! What the hell, I have just started playing this game 5 days ago and been playing it daily. Now, after some Galaxy update I can play on the "Play" button until I get blue in the face... the game doesn't start!!!

The crashinfo file states:

Crash reason: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (3221225477), Error writing location 0x00000000

Solved the problem:

The option from The Witcher 3 Game Overlay must be disabled. More->Configure

Strange though, I don't even know what that option does.

Same for me. Yesterday everything was fine, today it doesn't start. Unchecking in-game overlay doesn't change anything.
I'm unable to start the game.

Uncheck the "Game Overlay" from the The witcher's 3 config options, not Galaxy's option: Game->Gonfig->Game Overlay.

.. I was also confused at first.

That's it!! Perfect. I tried the other option, but this is the one that works.

Well done and thank you for clearing that up.
I am having this problem (or at least something similar). I've been playing on and off for months. Having played for the last few days I cam back this evening, opened galaxy and hit play, it paused for a while and then 'play' just re-illuminated. Didn't see a disable overlay option in DLC config. Tried deleting galaxy and the dll, the game won't launch without the dll, I just get the error message, I recovered the dll and its just the same, it pauses and then nothing.

I reinstalled galaxy, don't see a way of manually adding games to it and I haven't the fastest broadband so don't want to download it all again, there is no guarantee it will work anyway!

With Galaxy open, on Witcher 3's page, press More dropdown menu -> Configure, and on the lower part you have the Game Overlay checkbox. It's the same error for all of us.
I see it, is there any way to add the game back in to galaxy? I even have all of the original download files if that helps
