played 2 hours of this Game today to then figure out You cant Not Save the Fucking game,
it installed the patches and everything, but when i go to manually SAVE GAME it pops up in this window and says " saves created with this version of the game will be incompatible with previous versions of the game"
And my game WIll Not save NOR quick save. There isnt even a Fucking Game save file in my documents??? What the fuck is wrong with this Fucking game?

Possibly, if you described exactly what your issue is - without the profanity - someone would help you.

Saves made with a higher version of the game are not compatible with saves made with a lower version. i.e. - if you make a save with 1.07, you will not be able to load a save made with 1.02.

If you are playing on PC, you can check your save game directory (c:\profile\my documents\the witcher 3\savegames\ to see what saves are in there - there should be at least a few autosaves, after 2 hours of playing.

To play for 2 hours without saving your game is just asking for grief, though. In any game - and especially in the Witcher 3.

It isn't telling you that it won't save just that this save will be incompatible with previous versions of the game. That is a 1.07 save will not work if you roll back to 1.06. You can still save it and as @Peetz said the saves are located at: (c:\profile\my documents\the witcher 3\savegames\

Try to run the installation as administrator (right click the exe and click "run as administrator"). If this doesn't help create the savegame folder manually. I hope this will help you!

Hi. I have the same problem here. My game is brand new, freshly installed on my PC... since two weeks, but no save possible. Really hard to play the witcher with no save.

I'm running under windows 10
Reinstalled the game, created the witcher 3/savegames manually, tried to uncheck the folder's read only box (read it on some forum, but for some reason, it auto checks again), no save file is created in it.

Tried to load older versions of the game, install it with admin powers....

Launch the game, try to save, F5 not working, manual save not working, auto save not working...

i'm running out of ideas.

Please help ?

Right click documents, go to security tab > edit > full control (for each user) > apply


Then you can save, plus you can do this without leaving the game!



Windows 10 screwed up my permissions when I used to have a merged live account, this fixed it.

With the new dlc on the horizon I thought id dust off my new game+ and have a play through of my favorite IP and rpg but...
All my game save appear in the correct place (c:\profile\my documents\the witcher 3\savegames\ tho when the game is loaded no option to load game is there!
Has anyone had similar problems or have any advice?

My problem was that after a certain point, I was unable to save the game, and the autosave did not work. All old saves were available to play right up to the last save that worked. But I could not add any new ones. I tried all of the above fixes, with no luck.

I had a clean, non-upgrade install of Win 10, and a clean, non-upgrade install of The Witcher 3 v.1.12.1 via GOG Galaxy with all DLC. Everything had worked fine until it stopped, and I had made no changes of any kind to my computer or the game.

I solved the problem by cutting and pasting my The Witcher 3 to the desktop from my documents folder. Then I started the game, and chose to play a new game. I then confirmed that I was able to save games at that point.

Doing that created a new The Witcher 3 folder in Documents. I exited the game and GOG Galaxy, browsed to the newly created gamesaves folder, deleted all content, and pasted in the old gamesaves from the original folder which I had saved to my desktop.

All my old saves are now available, and I'm able to create new saves. I hope that helps someone.

I had the same issue. I discovered that I had two autosaves for the exact same moment. Loading either one took me to the exact same moment during a quest (it was "Possession," if anyone was curious) I believe this caused my previous saves to become corrupt. Although I did lose some gameplay before I figured it out, I was able to load the second of the two autosaves and save normally from there, although all of previous saves, manual or auto, disappeared. Attempting to load the first save file only resulted in being kept from saving. I hope this helps someone.

There's game-breaking bug right after you finish the quest "Possession", the game goes into a battle loop, with battle music playing constantly, therefore rendering you unable to save. I wonder if it's related...
