So ive recently installed witcher 3 goty.. it creates a broken desktop shortcut. based on some googling it appears the installer is broken and its been doing so for quite some time. It's an easy enough fix if you simply want to launch the game.

unfortunately im an ocd bastard and I also want the proper GOG specific shortcut icon. The round one goggame-1495134320.ico

Anyone have a fix or solution or means of procuring it? I've dug around the web for far too long now trying to find it and finally decided to turn here.

should look like this

Just right click on the shortcut > properties> change icon
Browse to ...\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY\bin\x64\witcher3.exe
And click on witcher3.exe

Or there is the icon

thank you for the reply and taking the time to upload that. unfortunately if you check out my attachment - its the wrong icon. I'm looking for the one that matches the GOG library of icons. (round with the white trim)

the included webcache.zip with witcher 3 appears to have some of the sizes present in png that would make up the ico but not all of them

edit: it appears patching with 1.32 is what obliterates the icon. i checked the game fodler before patching and it was there. turns out it was not the round one which has assets in the webache folder so for whatever reason they deviated with witcher 3 which is really annoying.

that being said, patching removes the icon from the folder which is weird. i guess i have to A) accept witcher wont have the round gog icon and B) uninstall and reinstall sans 1.32 patch to put back the ico the patch deletes. (i was only watching the icon but i think it deleted some other stuff that’s normally packed with gog releases too)

You asked for goggame-1495134320.ico , so that's what I posted.
I don't use Galaxy, so I don't know what the GOG library icons look like.
Is this any good for you?
It's just the picture you posted in .ico form.

hi again, yes - exactly what I was looking for. I found out more about the mix-up/lack of the usual medallion icon as well. It appears that it is included as part of the regular witcher 3 and is called goggame-1207664643.ico but for whatever reason did not get packaged with the goty edition (which is also missing gog.ico and a few other things usually packaged with gog games)

makes me wonder if it was put together in a rushed fashion and never looked at again or what. Even the uninstaller uses the icon from the exe instead of the gog icon. strikes me as odd and as someone ocd about such things requires making right manually :P

I appreciate the time and help!

The icon number coincides with the game ID number.
1495134320 being the gameId for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition"
That's why the non goty version has a different icon.

I suspect that when they updated the GOTY to 1.32 for Chinese language support, it got a new gameId and they just neglected to make a new icon for it.
I'm not sure as I can't read Chinese, so I never bothered to patch to 1.32.

Thanks! Worked well!
I've found a temporary solution by manually assigning a custom icon to the game shortcut. It's not ideal, but it does the job for now. I hope that GOG or the developers can look into this and provide a fix in an upcoming update. Aside from this minor icon issue, I must say that The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition is an incredible game. It offers a captivating story, breathtaking visuals, and engaging gameplay. The world of The Witcher is so immersive, and I've spent countless hours exploring its vast landscapes and taking on epic quests.
