Seneschul: On some computers shift+left click does not result in a strong attack.
Someone suggested to me, and I suggest to you, that you should bind strong attack to a single button, instead of shift+Lclilck. Then you won't suffer the issue any more.
Boeriemore: If I try to assign the LMB + left shift then only left shift is assigned in the key bindings.
Another issue. I watched a video where the player jumped and rolled out of the way of the griggin as it attacked,
however when I tried practicing these moves pressing the dodge and roll keys did nothing. Do I possibly have to be in a fight for them to be active?
Left shift is actually assigned to "modify attack type". That's how it makes it work to hold down shift (modify) and then left click.
1 or 2 items down from "left Shift" is strong attack. You won't want to bind shift to it. I bound Mouse 5. Wheel mouses usually have a middle click option which you may find convenient, conversely I would use a alphanumeric key on the keyboard - ctrl, shift, and alt are often reserved.
Regarding Dodge - yes, you can only dodge in combat. And only after combat is detected/initiated. Just wielding your sword doesn't allow you to dodge.
I do strongly suggest finding some lower level goons and practicing Dodges and Counter attacks.
Counter attacking works against light attacks and all fisticuffs. Against humans/nonhumans it will induce a light stagger effect and leave them open to an attack. Against creatures it will strike them for decent damage and can crit/have sword effects go off.
I was a firm believer in the rolling jump, but it's the wrong way to handle it in this game.
If you do a rolling jump and a creature's attack passes through you, the attack usually still connects.
Dodging, however, will usually cause the creature's attack to miss even if it appears to connect.
Good Luck!
