I downloaded and installed all the latest patches and expansions for W3 and now when I try to continue, my system hard crashes. My current system specs:
i7 3930K (Stock)
Asus RIVE
16 GB 1600Mhz RAM
Sapphire HD 7850
CM V1000W PSU
CoolerMaster CM Storm TKL Keyboard
Razer DeathAdder Chroma

I tried disabling MSI Afterburner, Synapse and any other back ground tasks but the system still crashes. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the game crash if you start a new game? Also, what is the crash report message?

Unfortunately, the system does not throw any error message on restart. And yes, the crash happens even on new game. Also, I have tried to revert as well as update to the latest drivers for graphic card but to no avail. The card is also running bone stock.

So the game is not crashing to desktop, the operating system is resetting... with no warning. Is that what you're saying?
Yes. And I tried other games on my system, mainly, Tomb Raider and Child of light and they do not crash and its only this game after I load the save. On the main menu, it can go on for hours

Are you using Galaxy? I've seen reports that turning off the Galaxy overlay can stop unexplained crashes. Give that a try.

If it's not that, then your drivers may be choking and causing the system to restart if you have automatic restart on. Check this article and disable automatic restart.
Well, the system does not generate a memdump. So I don't know is triggering the crash. Also, I downloaded the game files and installed it. I am not using Galaxy.

I've had similar issues.
Solved by using older video card driver and no crash since.
Yes, had the same issue a while ago.
The Graphic-cards driver was the source of the problem.

Is there something of use in your event viewer logs?
I have been having the same issue, i rolled back 2 driver versions from the most recent, it now has not reset the comp but display driver keeps crashing of the game lags then freezes. This only happens in Witcher 3 and only since the Blood and Wine DLC update
I have the same issue since the last patch, constant hard crashes requiring a reset of the computer, never happened before the patch.
Add me to the list ...

The game is constant crashing and not even the task manager could handle the problem after crashing. I allways have to reset the computer. I tried the latest AMD drivers and even a rollback didn't fix the problem. Very annoying!
You may also try AMD/ATI driver that I'm currently using. "Crimson - 16.5.3.
Since I'm running on this specific driver no single crash.
I am trying to rollback from 1.22 to 1.21 as my crashing seems substantially worse since 1.22, maybe 20mins gameplay if im lucky.

If your using the GOG Galaxy version, just right click the game / settings / then tick manual update and it will list all the versions
