I wish this game would just crash like any other game but it doesn't.
It freezes but keeps playing the game sounds in the background. At that point my computer does not respond to any input. I can't alt f4, ctrl alt delete, alt tab, nothing works. I have to restart my pc and that is really fucking annoying becasue this game does it all the fucking time.

I'm stuck on the pyres of novigrad quest because of these freezes and I thought this was
suppose to be fixed in the 1.05 patch.

Is anyone else getting this.
I've had it twice with 1.04 (out of many times), I haven't tried 1.05 because it seems to have stuffed more than it fixed.
If it's hanging with audio on a continuous loop, try reducing your audio quality is system sound control panel, advanced options. For example, if you have it set to 24bit/9600Hz, try changing it to 16bit 44100Hz. It sounds (no pun intended) like your audio system could be at fault, and reducing the quality will reduce the strain. You should also consider reducing your graphics if you still have problems.

I think something is crashing your graphics driver for sure, i would try updating it or, downgrading it to a more legacy version.
I've had no problems with the game so far - "knock on wood"

I've had the same problem your are describing in many other games though, and it has always either been my graphic drivers or my gpu running hot and shutting down.

So I would check my temperatures. Turn up the fans if possible and turn down graphic settings. If that don't work update or do a clean reinstall of drivers.

Just suggestions.

Ive had this issue with the inventory when the game first came out. Every 30 minutes or so it would freeze since I horde everything and open my inventory very often and they fixed that.

I bought a new EVGA 970 just to make sure this game would run and Ive tried it with and without the day 1 drivers nvidia released. All the other games I've played and even the game Im developing seem to run just fine. The problem appears to be just with the witcher.

Ive lowered my audio quality as low as it goes and ill test to see if it makes any difference.
Probably your computer is a monster so the witcher only does what he has to do ;)
I think Hickory might have been right. I did what he said and the game hasn't crahsed yet. Hopefully this did resolve the issue. I'm going to finish the quest to make sure it works.

Thank you very much Hickory. I was starting to pull out the few hairs on my head I had left because of those crashes.
Yup, that seems to have done the trick. Finished the quest without crashing. Thanks again Hickory.

You could try a slight underclock on your GPU(-20 on your base and memory clocks.)I did this on advice given after raising a support ticket with CDPR and so far no more crashes!
I'll try that if it continues to crash. Thanks for the advice cygnusxx1
This might be a stupid question, but does this mean I will some day have to upgrade my soundcard to run the newest games? :P

Thats something that has never crossed my mind until today. I've upgraded everything in my pc except a sound card.
I built my pc 3 years ago so its not like anything in this thing is ancient so Im surprised I'm even having trouble with audio but I suppose you would need to get a new soundcard especially if you are working with a built in soundcard on old hardware just to keep up with the newest tech and changes in audio.

Excellent, and you're welcome.

Audio has always been just as important, and just as big (if not bigger) a crash vector as video on PCs. Sometimes it's the hardware that is the weak spot, and sometimes it's the drivers, just like video. You can never overlook it.

its the videocard from evga, i have the same, and everybody that have the evga 970 oc or something else, the game will crash randomly, you have to downclock manually the card.
