Ryuubei: Crafting is where it's been casualised, heavily. You have to find the materials to make stuff only once (potions, oild etc, not weapons/armour) after that you don't have to bother anymore. Everytime you meditate they're filled up FOC just using a bit of alcohol. I tested it the other night and it used 1 bottle of alcohol to resupply EVERYTHING, if thats not casualisation i've no idea what is
You may call it "casual", but I'd call it gameplay optimizations. They pretty much just got rid of repetitive elements. It may be more realistic, if you have to gather ingredients for each refill of a potion, but let's face it -- gathering flowers and mushrooms wasn't exactly the most exciting aspect of Witcher 1 & 2.
At first I was confused by it as well, but imho this change was necessary to make alchemy builds more viable. You're still limited by your low supply of potions and bombs, but at least you no longer have to worry about "farming" the same spots for potion ingredients over and over.
There may be exceptions, but as a general rule, any halfway decent game designer will always prefer good gameplay over realism.
That said, perhaps they should deactivate the auto-refills for higher difficulty levels. I'm on the second difficulty level, so I'm not sure how things work on the 3rd and 4th.
