heres a qeustion for whoever what gives when i attack a beasty and geralt pulls out his steel sword instead of silver sword im confused it worked first time around when i finished game but now im playing again from scratch and he keeps using the darn steel sword weird much

You mean wolves and dogs? They're not monsters, so he uses steel.

try this
unequip steel sword before going for a fight with a monster forcing the game to unsheathed correct weapon
after fight save then load and equip steel see if that works next time you come cross next monster

If the hp bar is red, Geralt uses his steel sword. Simple as that.

Silver swords are powered by commas and full-stops.... and capital letters.
