Hickory: It's called potential. Stop trying to justify theft.

Wolfehunter: So let me understand this. If I invite some buddies over and give them a beer. I'm sharing my beer with them that I bought is theft now? How can the supermarket loose income when I already bought from them? Oh wait its call potential right?

I'm not justifying theft. I don't believe in it. But sharing isn't theft.

For me I'll always support good products. I'll buy it no problem.
If that's what you truly believe, then you're a bloody idiot. Sharing a beer, from a lot that you have legitimately bought, is not the same thing as distributing somebody else's beer to all and sundry. You ARE justifying theft, no matter which way you look at it.
Pirates usually were not going to buy the game in the first place. Can't count it as a lost sale.

Exactly.. So how can sharing "distribution" be piracy? So if I give a case of 2-4 to my friend and he shares it to his now its piracy aka distribution?

There is no theft if there is nothing stolen.. I didn't steal the beer from the market and nor did my buddies. I don't justify theft. I don't support it.

Also I didn't know sharing beer would make me a bloody idiot.. :P Not beer for you sir! :)
Why dont they sell the game cheaper, like 19 euros and keeping the expansion the same price?

The game is priced regionally. Cheaper in some places, higher in others.

You truly are an idiot, aren't you? You do justify theft... you are doing it now, repeatedly. And you know what? The only people who justify theft are thieves.

Goodmongo: Pirates are just thieves and like others try to justify their theft. I personally know people that have lost income due to pirates in music, literature and in coding.
avatar
Wolfehunter: How can someone loose income they never had? The only way is someone buying the product and then returning it.
Honestly? If you create a statue and someone steals it you lost that income from what should have been a sale. How is this so hard to understand.

If you steal a song and listen to it you stole someone's work effort. You gained something and never paid for it. That is stealing pure and simple.

Your post where you decide to give something away is not the same thing. Surely you know this.

While a pirate may not buy the game you at least have the chance that their desire to play the game would force them to buy it. They have now received something for free.

EDIT: And I'm not talking about you buying the game and then giving it to a friend after you finish. While it would be best for them to buy it at least you didn't first steal it and then give it away.

Here's a simple rule to know if you are a thief or not. If you take something that doesn't belong to you and the rightful owner is not giving away then that means you commited theft. Downloading music, movies or games that don't belong to you is theft.

*sight* I don't justify theft but you seem not to understand this. But if I understand your thinking.. Your repeatedly saying people are idiots must make you the idiot since you justify idiocy.

There you go... I rest my case.
I'd have it bought soon after release... if this release hadn't been plague with things such as unfair pricing, season pass, preorder incentives, etc...

Their fault for making the pirated version more attractive... that's even their own motto... :P

Oh also: https://fr.gamesplanet.com/game/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt--2672-1

Less expensive than on gog itself, and you don't even need to have the first two there...

Bah...

ps: now you have convinced me, I may even SEED the damn thing once I find an adequate version. :D

You may not justify it but does that mean you don't do it? Taking something you don't own is theft. I bet you're the kind of person that would say "Hey look this guy left his keys in his car. He must not want it." Or "Hey this guy left something a value out in the open. He must not really want it so I'll take it."

No I'm not that kind of person. But when I buy something I do own it. It is mine to do what I want to it. I won't sell it I won't hurt someone with it I won't do anything to justify any kind of theft. But I will use it and abuse it. Maybe break it? I'll take it apart and tweak it. I'll share it or toss it into the garbage. Maybe I'll paint it or fart on it. But its mine to do what I want to it.

Actually I know what its like to have stuff stolen from my car since it happened 3 times. Doors where locked but they forced the door. Surprised they didn't brake the glass.

You shouldn't assume what people are if you don't know them Goodmongo.

In fact, it's one of the things that make me want to buy a game. If it weren't for nuuvem.br and its regional pricing, I wouldn't buy any game on steam, because I couldn't afford it.
To whoever was dumb enough to say that because of piracy CDProjekt won't make a dime, get educated. First off some pirates never planned on buying the game on the first place, so it's not really a loss, and second many others will surely end up buying it just to support the devs.
In my case I'd rather try the games that get released and then if I feel like the devs put an effort into the game and deserve my money, I'll gladly give it to them. With CDProjekt it was a no brainer, I instantly bought each and every Witcher game they've made, as I'm a huge fan of the series. But Piracy is not really a problem, at least not the problem that some old geezers in suits are trying to make some people believe it to be. The devs make money nonetheless, and if their game doesn't sell a single copy, and gets pirated instead, it's because it wasn't worth a dime.
Most people, like me, have to work for our money, so it isn't fun when you pay for something that ends up being complete garbage and the devs just run away with their sacks full of money.. As we all know it happened quite a lot.
This only forces devs to challenge themselves, to try to make a game worthy of being bought. And I can assure you as I've been in "the bay" for well over a decade now, most pirates pay for the game afterwards if they feel like the devs deserve it.
