Well, that was fast.
I kept an eye on the top seller list on steam last week and Witcher 3 was at the top for that whole period, beating GTAV (which has dominated 1st place for weeks).

As of today it has moved down to 4th place below Counter Strike, with newly released Hatred in 1st (not sure how long that will last).
The bundle edition has moved to 8th place.
I find this a little disturbing as I find myself rooting for CDPR to make a killing on this game so that they can continue to grow and release more games of such quality.

I hope this game does not follow the fate of Psychonauts, whereby it is critically acclaimed, but fell financially short!

It can be expected that they at least broke even though, based on pre-orders alone (with room for error in my calculation, they exceeded 1 million pre-orders, and assume a sale of ~$50 per game (averaged for discounts) that accounts to 50 Million gross, whereas I believe total cost was $40 million including marketing).

Hopefully some total sales numbers across all platforms will be released in the near future!
Go CDPR Go!!
Well, it's not like... Unlike most games nowadays... We were able to buy the game elsewhere than Steam...

I did that and I'm sure I'm not the only one who said "F*ck Steam" and bought it here.
I did not buy it from steam either, but it is somewhat of an indicator of how a game is selling. Steam still has the largest PC userbase and therefore customers, though gog seems to be growing rather steadily which is great. I hope gog gets to the point where they have as large a library as steam, I would gladly make all my purchases here!

I read somewhere that CDPR are expecting to sell in excess of 7 Million copies. Given how much media coverage the game has had so far, this should hopefully happen...

It's also released on Origin and Uplay plus gog.com.

My prediction is they sell 10-12 million copies which seems not bad ok Skyrim is way ahead of that but don't forget at time NO COMPETIONS for Skyrim with other games. Bethesda also spent alot more on advertising then CD Project.

It's also DRM free maybe many idiots DL for free losers.

Im not worrie TW3 will be succes i think it will.

Don't forget that there is Witcher 3 and Witcher 3 + Expansion Pass as 2 separate products on Steam, both in the Top 10 so there's a decent chance that combined it would still be #1

That's true, I guess it's quite a feat that it dislodged GTAV for a week anyway.

I really hope they continue the Witcher tale at some stage, it is a very interesting world and I find the story and lore far more entertaining than Game of Thrones (which I got bored of into season 3). Yeah, comparing a game with a movie is apples/oranges though not completely since both are based off books.

Geralt has become my favorite game character eva!
