How does the Sort function work?

I have yet to figure out on what basis it sorts inventories.

Does it use the same criteria on all elements of inventory or is each section sorted differently?

I think that only criteria is developer's code.
Would be definetely better for fast orientation and ergonomy in invetory if all the writting and letters was below the bombs and potions. Its pain. At least for me.

'Sort' puts the items that are new in your inventory, the ones you haven't highlighted yet (marked by a small colored asterisk), first.

Beyond that, meaning when you've already checked out everything in your inventory and therefore have no 'new' items, the sorting seems to be a mix of type/longevity depending on inventory section with usually "better"/older items first. Beyond that i won't venture a guess since the sorting mess that is, for instance, the second inventory tab makes very little sense.

Frankly i haven't paid much attention to it because the whole inventory as it it right now it's a disaster.

Yeah, I guess.

It's likely we'll eventually get a better inventory though, be it through official implementation or a comprehensive UI mod.
