I already failed play the game, lost saves and preferences, and now trying replay it,

After 2H looking at setup I'm still puzzled in front of the amount of controls.

<Insert here many insults helping me release the hate>

I don't want to use a gamepad so I'm puzzled with finding a keyboard+Mouse setup.

Controls to use quickly during action/combat:
I can use 9.
I see the game requires: 4 for movements, sprint, dodge, roll, parry, strong attack, fast attack, use selected item, cast selected sign, jump, lock target, witcher sense, interaction, dive, swim up, that is 18.
Omg, seriously? And dive and swim are totally pointless boredom, mouse and movement keys should do the role already. And for lock target, boredom, can't design a system without such horror?

Controls to use less fast and more rarely during action/combat:
I can use 7.
I see the game requires: 4 for items, let say mousewhell to select sign but with combat speed it's madness, use steel weapon, use silver weapon, call horse, map, stop horse, leave horse, that is 11.

So what? I heavilly doubt a majority of players is able to use 18 commands during real time action. Even less about 30 commands to use rather often.

My bet is most players give up on some controls to use them only very slowly, I hope I could do that same, but can't see any setup, and obviously the game design isn't for such players, but only for an elite in my opinion not that common even if very vocal to brag a lot.
That must be the most pointless rage post I've ever read. Get over it and either play the game or don't.
Speaking for myself, yes, the keyboard/mouse control scheme is more than I want to deal with, too. I use an XBOX 360 controller in TW3. I don't know that its 'better' but it is more intuitive and much easier for me to use for this type of game.
There are a lot of controls, but a lot of keyboard/mouse controls you don`t need, the game is just real bad at explaining that. For instance the "Stop horse" control you don`t need cos you can stop the horse just by leting go of the `Move horse` control, pressing your `Step back` button.

I have Heavy strike set on my mouse hit button and fast on my side mouse button, and vault back on another side button on the mouse, while side-step and back are on my keyboard. Just spam these and you should be ok.

The signs are on my mouse middle button roll with `F` to activate. A little fiddly but still working on that...

That's an example, but it shows the problem, this setup already cause you troubles, and it doesn't include roll (surprised it's playable without), sprint to flee or rush help, witcher sense that you need when moving and you used all buttons on mouse, jump, more.

Sure as if your post brings anything, you played very few games to not see all the weak controls and pointless controls multiplying.

Gothic 2 has much better combats and don't need roll and dodge, so for what are movements? Bad design and it's quite boring such awful design is acclaimed.

Same for dive and swim up, totally stupid design, movements and mouse do the job without more boring controls. Again a very weak design and it's quite boring such awful design is acclaimed.

Dodge like if it's first computer game using dodge, at least give the option to double tap to dodge, not some more boring control keys.

Interaction, it's always contextual and don't need one more boring key, right click would be fine and nope it wouldn't mean attack the poor button or lever. And for the sick players that want kill some NPC that could talk provide a force attack is simple.

Witcher sense, not only the mechanism is tedious but also there's no toggle option, boring.

I already played 70H and never been at ease with controls, now I try again, I don't see much controls you can ignore.

It's the worst controls design I ever seen for mouse and keyboard. At least they should give options for the smart design alternatives.

Blaming your own incapability on others is not polite. Typical Z-class-player, but A-class-whiner. Try simpler games if you are overchallenged.

Stop bloody complaining and do as I suggested: play the game or not. It's your choice.

Caps.: Witcher sense.
Sprint: S
Jump: V
Ctrl: Parry.

But yea, I have nothing on roll so far.I agree it`s a pain to set up and even with that set I`m struggling- Still working on it.

See, a game only for an elite, 100% sure majority of players isn't elite, and the game isn't designed for them, and they shut up. Ridiculous.

Hickory, stop post void posts.

As you started give details, I'm curious, what are keys for movements?

Witcher sense should obviously had a toggle option, but not, lazy dev.

Elite. Muhahaha, between 12 and 15 millions are better Witcherplayers than you. The devs were very successful in streamlining the gameplay. You belong to the collateral damage.

But I see that Hickory and me couldn't give you a clou what's wrong with your lacrimosity. Imagine the following situation: In a mental blackout you buy a piano - talentless and educationally handicapped as you are. And now – metaphorically spoken – you try to play the piano with ellbows and feet. It will not sound devinely, so you continue by poundig the ivories with your forehead – again and again. In this critical condition you appear in a forum of music lovers, blaming the piano maker for your misery. Your proposal: The piano maker should remove the black ivories, the piano pedals and all but 8 white ivories. And you add your stringent argument: You are a divine triangle-player - without any difficulties so far.

And now the 100.000-$-question: Do you think that you will make many new friends in this forum?

If you feel overchallenged again then here's the short version for you:

If the peasant can't swim it's up to the swimsuit.

No no, return to your triangle and spare us with your lacrimosity. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. It's awkward to watch you making a fool of yourself again and again. And if you don't believe, then believe Ciri:

This is how my controls are bound. It may help you.

You can see that a single key may perform several functions depending on the situation (swimming, in/out of combat). Space bar is doing a lot of work there.

There are also some functions I found pointless so I left them unbound, like "Lock on Target." Though I have target locking disabled completely via a mod so YMMV.

My left, right back keys are `Z,C and X` keys. Left hand on keyboard, right hand on mouse. i`m not a gamepad user, but increasingly, I see games catering to gamepads and leaving keyboard/mouse broken , FallOut 4 for example.

I'm amazed at how a user like that hickory guy, instead of being banned, has a 5 star reputation! He does nothing more than bash everyone who complains about this game. I guess that with a massive amount of fanboy posts(since 2010!), you will reach that level!

Anyway, yes, the keyboard and mouse setup usualy is not very good for 3rd person games with this setup. I play with an xbox one controller, and i really recommend it. I have more than 90 hours of gameplay and i assure you that it's the best game that i've played this generation. And the controller gives hints through vibration feedback. I think it's a game designed to be played with a gamepad.

But don't expect a new control scheme for keyboard and mouse users. Seems that the last version of the game is already out, so...

But try nexus mods. Maybe there's something there that you like.
