I just bought the full retail box set, and like some others have experienced, setup doesn't work. It runs until the point it is supposed to start copying the .bin files and hangs... forever. I did find what appears to have solved the problem for some, copying all the files to disk and renaming them from;

setup_the_witcher3_wild_hunt*.*
to
SETUP-TH*.*

but that didn't work for me. The files are all dated 4/9, 4/10, and 4/12/15.

Any suggestions? I really don't want to download this monster at my slow connection speed. It will take a couple of days at best.

You are going to have to accept that you require monster downloads if you ever want to update the game anyway. May as well do it from the start.

Yeah, and that's not the point, is it? I bought the box version, don't you think I should be able to expect it to work? If I had wanted to tie up my network connection for a couple of days I'd have gone that route.

Thanks, anyway.

But that is the point, isn't it? You want to play the game. If you want to play the game as bug free as possible, especially with any DLC, you will HAVE to update it. There is no getting around that.

As for expecting it to work straight off the CD/DVD, then you need to contact the store you bought it from -- it is not a GOG problem.

No, it isn't a GOG problem, never said it was. I came here thinking there would be a solution to the problem I'm having... usually an online forum is a great resource. You obviously don't have a clue how to solve this problem, so please stop wasting my time.

Hickory's blunt, but I'm afraid he's also right - if installation from your DVD doesn't function properly, you need to take it up with the retailer. It's the safe thing to do anyway, if you want the disc to have any value to you in the future without remembering how many times you need to dance around fire to make it work and crap like that, getting an actually functional DVD would be the way to go. That is assuming the actual DVD is at fault as opposed to your computer anyway.

Yes I do, as I have already told you: take it up with the store you bought it from.
