Hey guys!
I have an i5 2400 cpu, 8 gigs of hyper x fury ddr3 ram and a gtx 980. I have an overall ok performance on high/ultra settings, 60 outside of big places,45-60 in places like novigrad. My question is: would I get a significantly better performance if I bought an i5 6500 and 16 gigs of ddr 4 ram? I got 400$, which would cover the upgrade costs or should I buy a new tv, which was my original plan with my spare money.

You're getting 40-60 fps in crowded areas. Your graphics card (which is what matters) is doing just fine. Buy the TV.

Hickory: You're getting 40-60 fps in crowded areas. Your graphics card (which is what matters) is doing just fine. Buy the TV.
I forgot to mention that I run the game on 1080p and hairworks on(it's on low and just on geralt but still amazing),but turning it down doesn't do much impact. And the benchmark shows that game eats up all the ram. Turned everything to low, thats the only way to get constant 60fps with vsync.

Turn your settings to high or ultra and you will see Hairworks makes a *huge* difference. It's an fps killer. Try it on high with Hairworks off, see what you get.

Hickory: Turn your settings to high or ultra and you will see Hairworks makes a *huge* difference. It's an fps killer. Try it on high with Hairworks off, see what you get.
Novigrad is the place that destroys my specs, everything is fine like everywhere with maxed out,55 is lowest I got, but Novigrad man...so distracting,even the expansions capital is fine.

You will probably get better result with video card upgrade (gtx 1080 or gtx 1070, comes to mind). I pretty much have similar configuration as yours with i5 4460. and I turned off hairworks. and run everything else ultra. I lower foliage to high when running around forested areas. I didn't miss the hair one bit. game runs smoother and looks beautiful.

so, I guess it's a choice between a new video card or a new tv.

How about in Novigrad? Everything is smooth here aswell except a few places, even with hairworks. And what resolution do you play on? I'm not planning to buy a new card, isn't even a year old.

1080p

45fps drop at most in novigrad. every now and then, but smooth.

It's very likely that in spaces which need to work with many dynamic objects like Novigrad, a new CPU would help a fair bit. 2400 is a bit ... Old. There's actually an easy way to test - knock all graphics options to low, if you're still getting 50 FPS, better CPU should help significantly. Also better optimization, CD Project. Oh well.

and if your monitor is only capable of 60hz refresh rate, there's no sense on shooting for frame rate greater than 60fps. you won't notice any difference at higher reported frame rate. if it's smooth and not jumpy, even at 38fps it's good enough

My graphics is done with GeForce GTX 750 Ti.

The monitor is BenQ RL2455.

You could try a new CPU, but it depends what your motherboard will support (sorry if you already know this).
