I'm currently working through a playthrough with an older save file, on a system that is updated to 1.22 and with the DLCS installed, and notice you can use an old save to start the blood and wine DLC when I get to a high enough level, but also notice it only mentions Blood and Wine and not Heart of Stone in the start game dialogue

Will I be able to access all the DLC through my vanilla game save, or will I need to create a new game to access the DLC?

Or if I load my save through the blood and wine use old save option, will I be able to play Heart of Stone at the same time? Esentially are both DLC packs accessible if I use the Blood and Wine old save option.

If all of W3 (including HoS, B&W, the DLC'S) are of version 1.22 you can practically go wherever you will (not counting the "best level" for each expansion).

There is one very important fact to understand: the expansions are contained fully within the base game. There is no "load through Blood and Wine", or "load through Hearts of Stone". You start the game, load your save, and go where you want. The expansions, and their areas, are accessed as anything else in the game is, through quests from notice boards.

So basically your saying that if both the expansions are installed you can use a savegame from an older playthrough to access the content when you reach the right level?

Yes. In all cases, provided your installed game has everything (and/or more) that the saved game has, then you can use it. Where the problem arises is if you try to load a saved game that has content that is not installed, or an incompatible patch (same thing in essence). Then the game will refuse to load it.

As I said, to access the expansion content, just visit the notice boards (usually at the Seven Cats).
