So, I've bought the retail version of Witcher 3. It's installing now. Just to make sure: the patches and DLCs require GOG Galaxy. If I install the game from the DVDs, will I be able to download the DLCs and patches from GOG Galaxy? Will it detect that I have the game installed already (so I won't have to download it again?)
My friend had US region DVD install when it first came out. He tried DVD then GOG and it was a pain in the ass. I would install gog then while gog is up and running install the game. Then restart GOG. It should at that point grab your updates.
You can use the files from the webside as well. No need for GoG Galaxy. All you need to do is claim the free DLC's and download them from the Account Games page.

No, they do not. GOG Galaxy is entirely optional, and is only of any benefit for people who are too lazy or dumb to install games and updates manually, or for managing achievements.

Meh, i don't know about all that. Kinda harsh. I only have the GOG client because I have used Steam for 11 years now and I am just used to having a client to open and play my games from. That's the only reason I use it. it just makes me feel "at home" I guess. ......old habbits die hard

However I do LOVE knowing I don't need it. I can take my game anywhere and install it anywhere with no DRM or whatever to worry about. I just personally like the feel of a client with all my games :)

It should be not a problem. It will detect your game - you just have to add the directory to your game. ("Scan and Import Folders" option in GoG Galaxy)

You just confirmed my point, that it's "only of any benefit for people who are too lazy or dumb to install games and updates manually".

No, I didn't "confirm" anything. Who says I am dumb or lazy?? You? That's an opinion. Not a fact. Kinda silly. I also feel you didn't even bother to read my last paragraph that well. I also said it was nice to have the freedom to be able to go anywhere with your games and not be tied to a client. Meaning I would not be "lazy and dumb" and could function without the client just fine should I want.

There seem to be this POV with some people that just because others prefer to use a client means they are pathetic and brainwashed. I prefer convenience and having a client is very convenient. Not sure why that is "lazy and dumb" to you. I enjoy being able to buy a game, click install, and hit play. Its nice. I also like the feature where I can copy my game to a USB stick or an external SSD and take it anywhere with no DRM crud to worry about. Everyone has their own thing and GOG allows the gamers more options when playing our games.

I suppose we all are entitled to our opinions but you don't have to be rude about it. Let others be free from harassment when they decide to play a game a certain way or if anything explain the benefits as to not using a client if you feel its no necessary. Don't just blurt out rude comments.

I suppose this will be the last time I check this thread. Negative people are not easy to have a conversation with sadly :( :( Just try to be more respectful of your follow gamers. Being nice will get you a long way in life and should be practiced on the interwebz aslo.

Thanks for confirming it once again. Now you can go away and sulk, also.

He/She didn't confirm it the first time, let alone the second...
